I truly wanted to love this place. As advertised, Blue Little Havana appears like a budget traveler’s dream - cheap and well-located. Anyone contemplating a stay should take heed of the following. Location: It’s located in a quiet residential Miami neighborhood called Little Havana. The neighborhood is safe, and I parked my car on the street without any issues. Accommodations: This is a hostel of the extreme bare-bones variety. Think college dorm rooms with bunk beds and an ensuite bathroom. But unlike a typical college dorm room, this hostel’s rooms have no furniture (i.e. no chair, table, or even a closet to hang one’s clothes), the ceilings are abnormally low, and the bathrooms are so tiny that it is impossible to turn around without bumping into a wall. Beds: The beds are smallish but adequate, and I was able to get a decent night’s sleep. But despite the arctic cold AC blasting day and night (with no way to adjust the temperature), the beds have only one thin blanket the size of a baby blanket. Because of this, I had to sleep in long underwear to stay warm. Bathroom: There is a sink, a hot-water shower, and a toilet. There are no major issues with the bathroom’s cleanliness although I noticed stains on the walls and ceiling. The issue here is the bathroom’s size, so small that even a normal-sized person has no room to maneuver. And even dressing and undressing in the bathroom is nearly impossible. Staff: Here is where Little Blue Havana truly shines. I found the staff members to be friendly, approachable, and helpful. They greet each guest by name and try to make conversation, which creates a homey atmosphere. Common areas: The heart of this hostel is the kitchen/recreation room, open from 7 am to 10 pm. This is a screened-in area containing a well-equipped kitchen, tables and chairs, a large screen TV, and a mini-pool table. There are two huge refrigerators, where guests can store their food. I enjoyed cooking my meals in the kitchen/rec room, and it was a great place to meet the other guests and strike up a conversation. Price: Even in view of the bare-bones and poorly-designed facilities, it’s hard to complain when considering the miniscule price of the accommodations, well below market rates, even for a hostel. I stayed for six nights, got a decent night’s sleep each night, saved money by cooking my meals in the hostel’s kitchen, and had some memorable conversations with the staff and my fellow travelers. General recommendation: Blue Little Havana is a viable option for the micro-budget traveler. Unlike most other hostels, there is zero esthetic appeal to this place, nothing beautiful in the surrounding area, nor any organized activities to keep guests occupied. If all you are seeking is a bed to sleep in and a place to cook your meals, without any frills or luxury, this place could well...
Read moreI came here from Ohio and booked in October and had accidentally booked in the dormitory room but decided not to fix it since I got a good deal on staying for a week. Upon arrival I was welcomed and shown around which was nice! The staff are friendly and will check in on you if you need anything. They don’t make you feel like unwelcomed or ghosted. The kitchen outside and huge. You’ve got two fridges to store food/drinks for your stay which is convenient. The dormitory room honestly isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I have social anxiety and thought I would be dealing rude or loud roommates but honestly they’ve all been quite friendly and everyone seems to stick to themselves so there’s never any drama. The beds are comfortable. You’re provided with a pillow and a thin bed sheet for a blanket. I didn’t know they didn’t provide fleece blankets or really anything that would keep you warm at night so that’s where I went wrong. I didn’t bring a blanket and with the ac on all night just makes the room freezing cold. I decided not to complain about it as I did bring some fall weather clothes with me to keep me warm at night. So just make sure to bring a blanket. Outlets are close to the beds for easy access to charge devices. I brought a lock for the locker to put personal items in it but the lock didn’t fit through the hole so I didn’t end up using it and kept everything in my suit case. I would consider it to be more like a little storage cubby only enough to store a little bit of clothes and shower supplies. It was a little smaller than what it looked like in the pictures. Everything is cleaned daily so there’s no need to worry about when something was last cleaned. I had surgery in the first couple days I was staying here and decided that I needed to book a private room for my nurse to monitor me during recovery as the dormitory room wasn’t going to work for that. Talked to one of the staff about needing a separate room for a day and she managed to help me book that and continue the rest of the time I booked in the dormitory room. Overall has been a good experience and definitely feels like a home away from home. Would recommend coming back here if I plan on traveling to...
Read moreone of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that this place is a disaster.
Firstly, the cleanliness is appalling. The rooms and bathrooms were filthy, with mold in the shower and stains on the sheets. It looked like the place hadn’t been cleaned in months. The communal areas were no better, with trash and dirt everywhere.
The staff were incredibly rude and unhelpful. When I raised concerns about the state of my room, they dismissed my complaints and acted like I was an inconvenience. The reception desk was rarely manned, and when it was, the staff were often more interested in their phones than helping guests.
The amenities were practically non-existent. The Wi-Fi barely worked, and the kitchen was a mess, with broken appliances and dirty dishes piled high.
The noise levels were unbearable. The walls are paper-thin, so you can hear everything from the neighboring rooms and the street outside. There was constant shouting and loud music at all hours, making it impossible to get a good night’s sleep.
Safety is also a major concern. The locks on the doors were flimsy, and I didn’t feel secure leaving my belongings in the room. The hostel seemed to attract a sketchy crowd, and there were people loitering around who made me feel uncomfortable.
Overall, I would strongly advise anyone considering a stay here and to look elsewhere. It’s dirty, unsafe, and poorly managed. Save yourself the hassle and book a different place – this one isn’t worth your...
