We came for brunch and the food was okay. They weren't that busy, but apparently had a bunch of reservations. We came in without one and were seated almost immediately.
The food was okay. We ordered the biscuit and gravy and it was more like a broth than a gravy. I ordered a chicken sandwich and it was good. Get the pickles, we had the GM bring us the food and she noticed we originally didn't ask for pickles. She said they were really good & she could bring some on the side. I wanted to give it a try and she gladly brought some pickles. Overall the food was ok. No real complaints.
The service could use some improving. Our waitress was a bit defensive for no reason. Either management has given her a hard time or customers in the past have. She came by and asked us about the food and got weirdly defensive when I told I was just waiting for pickle (we had literally just gotten the food) I explained to her what occurred with the GM and made sure to tell her it wasn't her fault or anything... I was simply waiting and the wait wasn't long.... The vibe from there changed.
The pickles eventually came and it really completed the chicken sandwich.
We had ordered potatoes that never came. We didn't notice until we were almost done and by that point we were already kinda full. We had been catching up and eating. When we asked for the check and asked her to make sure the potatoes were removed as we never we got them she then got defensive again and told us "You should've told me about the potatoes instead of telling me all that about the pickles." She kept on for a bit seeming to 'scold' us for not asking for the potatoes.
Mind you we weren't really upset or bothered. It happens, I've worked in hospitality before... Her tone and demeanor were really odd and to be honest unnecessary. Maybe had we gotten a different waitress (her name was Neymae I think) it would've been a different experience but at a certain point we just didn't feel ok ordering anything else. She just seemed upset about whatever was going on...
On the plus side.. The coffee shop next door is great to hang out after...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisiting Miami and decided to try this spot of the good reviews on Google and a couple recommendations on social media. Itās important to note that making a reservation is highly important because wait times are as long as an hour. My reservation was for 2 and I ended up getting seated around 2:15/20. Overall everything was ājust okayā - edible but nothing extraordinary. I was quite disappointed with the portion sizes compared to the prices. Hereās a breakdown of what my party had
Pastrami Hash: the pastrami was nice and tender. However the cubed potatoes couldāve used some salt. I was expecting more of the sweet potatoes mash but it was really more of a garnish. Honestly was expecting a fuller plate but it seemed a bit scanty.
Hot chicken and waffles: this was generally okay once you added the condiments provided. I was looking forward to this because the reviews said their chicken was good but honestly it was underwhelming. Crunchy and underwhelming. There was nothing hot about the chicken. Had to pour the house hot sauce provided to get any heat. A bit despicable that they serve this dish with 3 waffles instead of 4 š I know those waffle maker machines make a full circle with 4 waffles š.
Mushroom Burger: my friend said it was just alright. Canāt believe it didnāt come with any fries or sides with a $22 price tag!
Lemon blueberry ricotta pancakes: these were nice but smaller than expected. It was very tart and sharp. Couldnāt really get the flavor of the ricotta. It was heavy on the blueberry flavor and somehow the lemon flavor wasnāt coming through.
Condiments: I will say their hot sauce and jelly/jam were really nice and were what helped meals taste better.
Service was decent and the ambience was simple with artistic Miami touches. Overall Iād say this is an okay spot but definitely not worth the long wait time. They serve good meals but nothing...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is an overrated place that needs to be stopped. Content creators benefit from this. The waiter/server was condescending and he made the experience for me and my partner uncomfortable. You can see in this place gentrification at its finest. Nonetheless, the chicken sandwich was the only good thing from this experience itās definitely a must try. As for the lemon ricotta pancakes, even FirstWatch makes better because they were below average. Pancakes had no hint of lemon, the ricotta didnāt even taste like ricotta and the pancakes just flour. Nothing special. The omelette was a very small portion in a very large plate, eggs were fluffy and prosciutto saved the plate with the cacio e Pepe sauce. The biscuit and gravy were good. Would only recommend this place for take out of that good chicken sandwich. If you are smart save your money and try another place. Itās too expensive for 2 people.
UPDATE: Owner responded to my comment. I love that this a black owned business because black people deserve recognition and support.
However, I decreased my rating because itās very irresponsible as an owner to respond to my experience by saying that I am attacking the business. When I refer to influencer and content creators is that they show this place as a really good place but the food and the ambience did not deliver. Therefore, they benefit monetarily with their videos. Also, when I mean gentrification my experience was seeing a location in predominantly black community, which that Sunday the restaurant was full of white people and they were treated better than me and my companion. Like I mentioned the service for us was horrible. I apologize that I did not clarified my opinion in my first post.
Thank you for responding and I appreciate you taking your time to address...
