My wife and I just moved from Southern Cali to Star. Today, we went out to explore Middleton.
A short 10-12 minute drive for us without traffic, The Rustic Oven is located in the same shopping center as the laundromat we utililzed before our washer and dryer arrived, as well as the Idaho Ranch Thrift Store (another review).
There were several young women working when we arrived. I'm sorry to say that I did not catch the name of the woman that seemed to be the manager/head baker. All of the staff were nice and friendly.
Somehow the conversation shifted to lavender scones, one of my wife's favorites. The manager said that they could custom bake some for her. As the only other lavender scones we've found in Treasure Valley were at a specific Albertsons in Meridian or Eagle (we can't remember), my wife was thrilled. She ordered a dozen. The manager didn't even ask for any money up front.
We also ordered some rolls (my wife's was cinnamon pecan and mine was berry) and they were delicious. In addition, they have a variety of other pastries and sandwiches available on their fresh made bread that looked wonderful (I had my eye on the Reuben for a future visit). I think that The Rustic Oven will be a go-to...
Read moreI’m a bit of a breakfast burrito snob. I despise a breakfast burrito stuffed with fillers, over flavored with spices to cover the fillers, and lacking true flavor. So I had heard of the breakfast burrito here and decided I’d give them a shot. What I found was a hidden gem of a delicacy in a charming small rural bakery. The breakfast burrito here was filled with a proportionate helping of perfectly seasoned eggs, your personal choice of eggs or bacon (or both), a delicious blend of sautéed peppers and onions, and finely shredded hash brown style potatoes. All of this comes together, not like a boldly flavored, Mexican style breakfast burrito, but more of an inviting home style country cafe breakfast skillet with a side of crispy hash browns, rolled nicely into the portable morning rush friendly package that the burrito form provides. To say the least, the breakfast burrito at this location is now on my short list and should be in the running for a...
Read moreMimicking a previous customer's review! I’m all about supporting our town’s businesses. But The Rustic Oven's prices are pretty steep. I saw the owner's comment saying that they haven’t raised prices in 3.5 years. But they were already high in the first place from my first visit back in 2022. Only the new folks moving here with money can become regulars and not us longtime Middleton residents. It’s tough for some, especially seniors and people with lower incomes. Maybe some budget-friendly options could make it easier for everyone to enjoy. We ordered a few "regular-sized" cinnamon rolls and a couple of breakfast burritos, and I was shocked when she said $45 and some change. And $20 for a basic, 8-inch apple pie seems way too high. We won't...
