Food was good; customer service needs improvement. I’ve never had an issue at MJ’s in Middletown until tonight. My friend called ahead to confirm their serving hours. We arrived 1 1/2 hours before they stopped serving food (arrived a little before 9:30 pm when they said they stop serving at 11:00 pm) and we were given issues as soon as we walked through the door. No hostess was present to greet us for several minutes and a server and bartender glanced over and gave our party an unpleasant look from the bar. The server made it an issue to seat us stating a large group reservation was before us. She stated she couldn’t give us a wait time either? So we asked if we could sit at the bar then to eat and she said it would be best if we just sat at the bar. After we sat at the bar the hostess stand was empty and no large group came in during our stay. Our bartender was inattentive, never asking how our apps/food was after it arrived, no refills or boxes offered and no check. She sat in the corner with the other servers/hostesses the entire time we ate, eating her own meal. Leaving it to the other bartender to serve us who was very kind. Honestly, I wish he served us the entire time because he was a great help. The regular next to us let us know his name is Scotty and he provides exceptional service when she’s there. Even when leaving, our bartender/server ignored us, never said have a nice night as she approached the bar as we walked out. But yet she still collects the tip because the receipt is marked for the entire bar. I know times can be tough during the pandemic but this was ridiculous. The attitudes and service were unacceptable. How embarrassing when my husband pulled me aside and stated he went to high school with the bartender/server and was shocked with how she handles her customer service skills. I went to the Matawan MJ’s last week and they really set their customer service skills apart from Middletown. Highly recommend Matawan...
Read moreAwesome! Great food- each MJ's shares certain qualities- Sports on the tv's, good pizza & signature dishes, & choice of atmosphere.. (bar or restaurant atmosphere) So, whether you're sitting in chairs at a table or if you're on a stool at the bar counter, the type of seating you have, is your choice. Enjoy! $$ average prices- like any other mid-range sport's bar & restaurant. 2 people with 1-2 alcoholic drinks (dep on beer or hard alcohol or pre/post meal choices: appetizer, soup or salad, dessert, etc. all effect the price) Usually 2 meals, 1 bowl soup, 2 beers (Yuengling), 1-2 drinks (L.I.T.) would be under $100, with tip you're right back to $100. A hundi isn't that bad w/ alcohol, a BOWL of N.E. Clam Chowder, 2 entrees! If you get a big pizza to share & 2-4 drinks, (2 Yuenglings, 1-2 L.I.T.) you'll be back in the $50 range-tip included $65-70.. If you go just pizza & beer.. $40 & tip prob $50... (This is more by memory.. I didn't look at a menu or any prices... So don't quote me,...
Read moreI’ve been going to this Mjs since the day it opened, and I never had the horrible experience that I had tonight. I understand that this is pre-covid and things may be running slower than usual, but I don’t believe this was that occasion. We waited 20 minutes for our apps- one never came out, and we waited 20 minutes for our entrees where two of the four were stone cold. The other tables that sat down after my party were being served. Our server, Capri, seemed less than enthused to be there and had “wonderful” side commentary to every small request we asked for… (waters for the table that we also never got). I’m well aware of bad days, and not being 100% while at work, but it was incredibly unprofessional. What was also unprofessional, was when my mother whose salad was soggy, feta cheese was hot, and she couldn’t eat it, Capri had very loudly asked what my mother didn’t like about her salad in a quiet dining room, putting her...
