Heine Brothers Coffee - Blankenbaker — Restaurant in Middletown

This Heine Brothers location is my happy place. I have spent so many hours sipping my coffee, poring over schoolwork, and people-watching/eavesdropping. The conversations one overhears in this place could fill a book. I have caught snippets of philosophical debates, theological discussions, innovational ideas, creative epiphanies, and laughter. When I'm in this place, I feel like important things are happening in the world and I am in the middle of it. Aside from the demographic atmosphere, the interior is comfortable, with ample space to spread out and convenient seating for collaborating or working alone. Anybody in Louisville who knows what's up will agree that the coffee is magnificent at Heine Brothers. Enough said. But the particular difference of this Heine Brothers is the unusual kindness of the baristas. They are consistently joyful and friendly. It would be so easy for them to be disengaged or rude on a busy weekday morning, but they never are. In particular, Griffen and Caleb have made a point of remembering our names and our orders, and my siblings and I are always met with patience and kindness. Most Heine Brothers locations are excellent and this location is as well.

Heine Bros. is a Louisville and southern Indiana area coffee shop chain founded in 1994 that has approximately 19 stores. Many stores offer more seating options (including outdoor seating) than national rival Starbucks (though Starbucks has probably close to 3x as many locations in the area). Heine Bros. locations typically have what is described as a "funky" character and the company only serves organic fair trade coffee. But Heine Bros. is also not cheap -- be prepared to spend a bit of money.

Heine Brothers on Blankenbaker Parkway (HBBP) is in a local and somewhat higher end strip mall and is next door to a pretty good pizza place (Impellizzeri's Pizza). HBBP has a drive thru option. I and others use the location frequently to meet other business contacts for 1-on-1 conversations. While the small fare food and coffee are always excellent, my only wish is that the location had some acoustic tiles or other devices to reduce interior noise level, because when the place gets busy, it can start to get very hard to hear a conversation.

I'm visiting from family from Florida and figured I would come in for a muffins. When I walked in the was no line but alot of people there enjoying their coffee and breakfast. The lady at the counter that helped me never asked my what I wanted and just stared with out a single word. When I told her what I wanted. She nodded and prepared it for me. Then when it was done, rather than handing it back to me at the check out counter I was standing at since nobody was waiting in line she walked right passed me and set it on the counter 10 feet away from me which I found odd and still not a word out of her mouth. In this type of industry I would expect much better customer service from a 4.5 star...
