Sunday Aug 5th was a busy day at Startin Marvin's. When I arrived 2 beautiful ladies were waiting, they each lived a half hour away and had kids in the car. They told me they'd already been waiting almost an hour for their food.
Oh good heads up.
One of the ladies came back 3 times. The last time, even sadder than before, ...her childrens Chili cheese fries had frozen chili on them.
Oooh it was hot in the waiting area.
Flies everywhere.
I ordered online at 1:11. I arrived to get my food at 1:39. At 2:22 my food still wasn't done. I finally got the food, I ordered online at 1:11, in my hand at 2:36. My son called at 2:28 throught maybe something happened to me, we live 5 mins away. He was HUNGRY MEE TOO
I know what its like to be busy. I am a former GM of Restaurants. MY entire life is restaurants.
I can, and do understand, the growing pains, and being super busy.
They had a hard day.
Everything would have been ok, but the owner arrived and she did nothing to help her staff. She was angry and berated her staff for their behavior in front of us "guests" (another lady told the owner that the cook was about to quit), she said this hoping the owner would help him, her staff. Instead the owne4 berated her staff in front of me. Unacceptable behavior she told her cook. :/ Well, unacceptable behavior from the owner as well.
If my guests had waited an hour for their food I would have made sure they were takin care of. Not necessarily purchased or refund the food, but make it right. I would check the boxes myself, hand them to the guest and ask for them to come see us again. Not this owner she didn't really seem to care. I only eat at Mz Jades Soul Food and Bourbons. I couldn't wait to try Startin Marvin's! I was so excited. Now I'll probably never go back.
I hope they can work out the kinks because the fish was delicious!
My son liked his Quesadilla.
I truly hope for small business like this to survive, but warmth is required in the industry as well as good food served in a timely manner.
Ma'am. I do not lie. But your retort...
Read moreI went here on a Friday night around 1:30am because i’d just got off work at my own sports bar. I was aware that they had a late night bar crowd but not aware that they had security to pat you down and music blaring over speaking volume. Still, this is not surprising for Middletown’s late night crowd so it did not turn me away. My problems began with the heavy set woman with a fringey bob who took my order & directed me to a menu that later was referenced by herself to be not accurate. Prices were then higher. Then, though I specified naked wings several times because I do not eat breaded, wings were ready much later and breaded. Still, me being a server myself I understand miscommunication and common errors, I notified the woman of the mistake to which she obliviously disregarded until I grabbed her attention a second time. The woman only then responded “you did not say that”, despite my surety that I stated it at least 3-4 times because it was of great priority to me and she did not repeat my order back so I wanted to make sure that she heard me say naked (the menu says “naked available upon request”). That was my issue. When a customer addresses a concern respectfully, you do not blame the customer or disregard them. The obvious response should have been, “Sorry, maybe I didn’t hear you over the loud music”. Luckily there were naked wings up and ready to which they quickly corrected, despite the attitude of the cashier/bartender/poor communicator’s response. The wings I received were small and consequently overpriced, but I was pleased with the flavor. Likely will not return, as I dare not even mention the interaction between the drunk security and myself as well. This is the first review of my life, hope that adds to the...
Read moreI’ve been considering trying this place for a while. I was deterred from doing so due to the prices. But, I do prefer to support local, small businesses so on this glorious Sunday I decided to. I ordered the Philly egg rolls, chicken tenders, cheese fries and a strawberry shortcake ice cream cookie. The Philly egg rolls were just-okay. The sides of them were quite soggy from the grease from leaking on each other. My suggestion would be to put these in a larger container where they can separately lay flat to possibly prevent some of the grease from spilling onto each other. Not sure what the solution is here because phillys are known to be greasy. The parts that were crunchy were delicious! I would also reconsider serving these with the sweet n sour sauce and switching to a house made ranch or even nacho cheese for the ranch haters. I can appreciate the egg roll/sweet n sour combo but not with a Philly cheese egg roll. The flavors did not flow well together in my opinion. I would also suggest adding a cheese sauce to the cheese fries. The strawberry shortcake cookie was good. The ice cream was delicious! But, the cookies were HARD. I would consider making the cookies softer. My cookie was also brown a bit on the bottom so I’m not sure if overcooking attributed to that hardness. If prices decrease in the future, I would return and try some other things on the menu. But at this point, the food falls short and the prices ($13 for a milkshake in Middletown?) are just not it. I do hope this small business thrives. The prices match more of a West Chester/Dayton mall area restaurant. Just not small town-blue collar Middletown, in my opinion (you know what they say about those )....
