The Middletown Canal Museum on Verity Parkway at the Verity Parkway entrance to Smith Park is an exceptional historic Middletown location. You can visit inside the museum for free on Sundays early afternoon from spring to fall. You can walk around the interesting outside of the museum all year around. The inside of the original Doty House is packed wall to wall, floor to ceiling with spectacular artifacts, tools and written material all depicting the rich history of the Miami-Erie canal.

Their website fails to say that they're only open April - October. Waste of a trip. There's no parking lot, so I'd recommend driving to Smith Park and walking towards this very small museum (if they're open). The nearby canal was dry, revealing all the trash.

Cool museum to see and read the Ohio historical marker out front. While finding the parking for it is a bit confusing as it's in the park behind the building. It wasn't open the day I stopped, but was able to check out the outside.

What a cool little museum about some of the local Middletown/area history as well as the canal that used to be active there (part of the canal is right outside the door). Plenty to see, learn and experience, and you'll need about an hour. Partly handicap accessible, and you enter the museum via the park BEHIND the museum (look for signs guiding you). Free to enter and well worth a stop!...
