This review is based on two visits: Sunday 9/9 at 11:00 AM and Thursday 9/20 at 8:00 PM.
My wife and I were excited that a place like this was open, near where we live. We were pleased to see new options for dining out.
Each visit, the store was reasonably busy, and we were welcomed as we entered the doorway.
On 9/9 (five stars), our experience was straightforward and fun, with our order consisting of two of the named pizzas, two side salads, and two drinks. We went through the line rather quickly, and all along the line they each seemed to know what to do at each subsequent prep station. After all, they write your order on the wax paper, under the crust. Our pizzas were ready in about ten minutes from paying at the cashier. The dining area, although busy, was well-patrolled and cleaned. Further, our food was good and fresh, and we enjoyed the experience enough to try them again on Thursday 9/20.
On 9/20 (no stars), we were again greeted at the door, and then it went downhill and fast. We again ordered two named pizzas (I had the "Dominic"), and two salads. We had to repeat our order twice to the first person in the line. Then, it appeared that there was a shortage of crust and the first person asked for more crust, to no effect. Then someone else yelled for more crust, and eventually, some crust appeared. We were then passed along to the next person in the prep line, who proceeded to ask us again for our orders. After responding to her, she spaced out and stared into the distance for thirty seconds, and then resumed whatever she thought she was supposed to be doing, which unfortunately, had nothing to do with working on our order - I'll call her "Space Out Stacy". Our third employee in the prep line (a very helpful guy) stepped in and got us moving again. After he was done, and at the next station, our prep person exclaimed, "I gotta change my gloves, they are gross!" - I'll call him "Gross Gloves Gary". The helpful third person then stepped in (again) and moved our order along. The worker at the final station asked us yet again for what we ordered (was it not written on the wax paper under the crust?!). We paid and waited about fifteen minutes for our pizzas.
While we waited for our pizzas and ate our salads, we looked around the dining room for signs that the tables were being cleaned and messes cleaned-up. Perhaps empty cheese shakers at tables were being replaced/refilled? Nope. We also counted at least ten employees behind the counter, and many of them socializing or milling around. There was no shortage of labor, and the line was thin. While my wife went to get her drink, an employee came up to me - I'll call him "Mistaken Identity Mike" - and then started talking to me like he knew me and said that I was his manager. It took him fifteen seconds to realize that I wasn't who he wanted to talk to.
Fortunately, our food was also fresh and good, as it was on 9/9.
I want to recognize the "Third Guy", that I mentioned earlier. To his immense credit, he came over to our table and asked how we were doing. This is making the difference in what I am about to write.
This place is clearly going through its post-opening growing pains. However, the lapses in customer service and our experience on 9/20 will keep my wife and me away for the next few months, while I hope the labor and training issues work out.
However, this will be one more (and final) chance.
One more experience like yesterday (9/20), and we'll wish this place all the luck it can get, and never return. The sole reason we are even considering giving MOD Pizza another chance is the kind customer service that we received from "Third Guy" on 9/20. "Third Guy", I hope MOD hires more of your type and less of "Space Out Stacy", "Gross Gloves Gary", and "Mistaken...
Read moreMods pizza in Midlothian, Texas was a great place to get a great pizza. The service was good and the pizza’s made fast. The only pizza restaurant my wife and I would go to. Good price and good food. I began to notice about 18 months ago that the cleanliness of the location was failing. The rear of the restaurant faces directly, clearly and near the highway, next to the entry of the parking lot. The trash would regularly be piling up and quite a mess. Inside, where the small storage area opposite of the restrooms are located is constantly a big mess. The restrooms don’t smell, but are usually dirty as well. I wash my hands after every meal there. Unfortunately, one day about two weeks before Christmas, my wife and I got a bad case of diarrhea after eating there. I had and all meat pizza and my wife had a salad with some meat in it. After about three weeks I decided to call Mods customer service and inform them of the issues. I got a message that they were busy and to leave a message. I left a message with my name and phone number and that I would like to have a call back to discuss some issues at one of their locations. It was during the holidays and didn’t receive a call back. Assuming that their customer service may not be in because of the holidays, I waited until the first week of January to call them back. Again, I got the told to leave a message, which I did and clearly left my name and phone number. I did not receive a call back. I am writing this review on February 21, 2023. I still have not received a call back. I now will be reporting this issue to the health department. What a shame. Mods was a great place to eat, but the restaurant is filthy their customer service is EXTREMELY poor. I haven’t seen the back area where the food is prepped and stored, but I can only imagine what goes on there and what...
Read moreMy husband and I went to their Midlothian TX location and the service and experience was not good at all. I got two mega dough build your own and he lady making out pizza first of all was not wearing gloves and she was the only one other than the cashier that was not wearing gloves I asked for my pizzas to be made over with someone who is wearing gloves how in the world did she pass he food handlers course! Even when she was told why the pizzas she made were being thrown out she still didn’t put gloves for the other customers and began handling the dough. She was just nasty and didn’t care I hope she was not the manager. I then asked for pesto sauce and I barely got any and when I asked for more Ms No gloves gave me an upset look and says to me well I your toppings will just fall off. Who’s paying for the pizza first of all secondly I’ve been to BLAZE PIZZA and I get the pesto put on like it was red sauce and my topping never come off. To make matters worse ALL THE TABLES WERE FILTHY AND THE TRASH BINS AND BLACK DISH BINS WERE COMPLETELY FULL I asked to have a table cleaned and the cashier started but never finished I understand her because she had a line of customers and her job is to get the cash and keep the line moving smoothly. I couple sitting in front of us were using their own wipes to clean up their table and were kind enough to offer us some wipes so we would not have to eat on a filthy table. The tables I must mention outside were clean but it was also a rainy day so we couldn’t even eat there but that may explain as to why those tables were the only ones clean. I won’t be going back.
MOD PIZZA IS VERY DISAPPOINTING AND I HOPE THIS GETS TO CORPORATE IF NOT I WILL BE COPYING AND PASTING AND SENDING IT TO CORPORATE!
Very respectfully but extremely unsatisfied...
