First of all, this is one of my favorite places to eat in Midlothian. I get the crunchy roll weekly, sometimes more.
We ordered 2 for pick up today and when my husband came home with them, they were only 6 pieces instead of 8 and all of the end pieces weren’t there. The pieces also seemed skinnier than normal. The end pieces are my all time favorite part. I called to ask about it and was told that the crunchy roll was a 6 piece roll. I hung up the phone thinking I may have been wrong. I went to the menu on their website and sure enough, they are supposed to be 8 pieces.
So, I called back to let them know that there are supposed to be 8 pieces in the roll according to their menu, and somehow my 4 end pieces were left out. I got put on hold and then, I’m guessing, the chef came out and started talking to me very brazenly. He told me that they cut the rolls into 6 pieces to save time and if I want it in 8 then I need to tell them, but it will be skinnier. I told him, “that’s fine, but then where are my 4 end pieces that are missing”? He never would let me finish that question without trying to talk over me about how they cut their rolls. I understood that, but he never would answer the end piece question. At one point, he he said “listen to me. Listen to me.” Cutting me off while I was trying to explain my question. I finally got fed up and understood that I wasn’t getting anywhere, so I said goodbye and hung up the phone.
Like I said in the beginning, I have been coming here frequently since they opened. We live less than 5 minutes away. I LOVE the food and my kids love their chicken pad Thai. But, after being talked down to acting like I was the problem and not answering any of my questions, I don’t think we will be returning anytime soon. It’s really a bummer, but we can get pad Thai down the street at Thai Tie for the kiddos and I can live without sushi.
To be clear, I did not call looking for a fight. In fact, I have only ever called one other restaurant about a wrong order in my life. I normally live with it. I called wanting to let them know about the problem so they could make sure it doesn’t happen again. I also never asked for ANYTHING except answers to my questions.
So, awesome food and I had never had a problem with an order there before. But, now that I know how they treat their customers when they have a problem, I will not...
Read moreI gave this restaurant 2 stars because the food was so-so good, but this bait-and-switch pricing really got under my skin.
I believe a previous commenter also stated this a week ago, but they charge a higher price than what's listed on their menu. I also ordered the Love Boat for 2 and was charged an additional $5. When I pointed it out to the wait-staff, they said that it was due to market prices increasing and that there was a sign on the door. I asked why they didn't change the menu to reflect that, and they said they didn't want to print new menus. I still left a 20% tip before leaving, because the food was excellent and the staff was still great, but I will likely not be going back due to feeling deceived. As I left, I looked for the sign they mentioned and it was a little piece of paper that had a handwritten note on it.
I suggest to the owners the following options: -Write in bigger font "we have had to TEMPORARILY adjust menu prices" and then explain in smaller text. -Have the wait-staff let the customers know that the menu has some outdated prices when they first take drink orders. -Print out a bunch of "$5.49", "$54.99", etc. on a sheet of paper and cut them out and tape them on old menus. That way you can peel them off when the...
Read moreI’ve been here a few times now. The service is always pretty good. I like the atmosphere. Their decor is nice, I like their light fixtures, and the bar/sushi prep station looks nice. The chips that they give upon seating is really cool, never seen another sushi place do that. Their miso soup is the most Mid soup I’ve ever had, I don’t understand the reviews that praise the miso soup, it’s not good. The sushi however is quite good. Most often when coming here my girlfriend and I will get a special roll each, and sometimes a regular roll to split, usually that’s plenty of food for the both of us without breaking the bank. Of the special rolls some of our favorites are the Texas roll, dynamite roll, and dancing eel roll. All of which are tasty, filling, and presented well. future revision onward their menu is ambiguous on certain items, such as the wild dragon roll, which presents an illusion of choice. Essentially the way the menu reads you have 3 options for the interior, as well as 3 options for the exterior of the roll. I read the menu out loud, verbatim multiple times and it is clear this is what the menu says, but this is not the case. The food itself is good and their presentation is immaculate, but I am a stickler for...
