I'm not here by any means to bash this restaurant but moreso to just give an honest review from 1st time customers. My wife and I went here for her sisters birthday. I had always heard about this place but honestly wasn't too interested in it due to price. So when my sister in law advised us that she would be having her birthday dinner here, it was almost like an obligated opportunity to see what the hype was all about. The 1st thing I noticed was the building. It doesn't have the typical restaurant look. If I could be honest it looks like a huge house of a plantation. I haven't done any research but I wouldn't be surprised if it is indeed one. But that's ok because though both my wife and I are black we got married at Dellwood Plantation in Chesterfield. Now to the main part of review...the food. The staff is great, well-mannered, knowledgeable and friendly. I understand that many people come here for steak but we don't care for steak. Its not bad to us but we just prefer many other things over it so we rarely ever eat it. My apologies if you are reading this review to see how good their steak is. My wife ordered salmon. Typically any where we go that has salmon on the menu, she will get it. For some reason her favorite place to eat salmon is Cinebistro 🤷🏾♂️. A close second would be Croaker Spot which is where she gets stuffed salmon and its stuffed with crab meat. She states that the salmon was cooked perfectly at Ruth Chris and the portion was big however it lacked flavor/seasoning. And we understand that's not all that important to some people but it is to us. Our sister had us try a sweet potatoe casserole and though my wife doesn't even like sweet potatoe pie 🤦🏾♂️, we both loved the casserole. I would even consider it to be a dessert 🤣. She also had brussel sprouts and states they were good but they weren't amazing. I didn't know what I wanted so I had a few appetizers. I had the spicy shrimp which was good. I'd say a tad bit better than the bang bang shrimp from Bonefish Grill if you've had that before. It came with a tiny portion of cucumber salad which I enjoyed as well. I also had the ravioli. For me this wasn't good at all. It lacked flavor as well. Also I had crab cakes. Now maybe its just me but I prefer crabcakes with a kind of crispy exterior. These were pretty soggy all the way through. I also had a caesars salad which wasn't bad just typical. I would have much rather had a grilled chicken market salad from Chick-fil-A. Also they didnt have lobster stuffed mac and cheese or crab stuffed mushrooms. In conclusion we will not be eating here again. Its nothing against the restaurant but for what we like to eat, there's much better options. If you want to impress your date with a much overpriced menu, and you prefer foods with a bland taste, this would be perfect for you. I expected the restaurant to be expensive but with that expense, I also expected a certain quality of of food. We expected it to be amazing. Sure everyone has different taste buds and our culture is known for seasoning food well and sometimes overseasoning it 😂. Her salmon alone was around $40! Not to sound cheap but we both can eat at Cinebistro for $100 and that includes the movie and gratuity. Granted everything is a-la-cart, and 20% gratuity (if I'm not mistaking) is included in your cost, we didn't experience a wow factor with anything except the sweet potatoe casserole. I hope this review helps some that have never been and are on the fence about going here. Again this was not a beat up session. All I can say is that we went here with expectations as high as the cost...
Read moreI visited Ruth's Chris Steak House for the first time on 1/29/2023 in celebration of my upcoming birthday, and it was, by all accounts, a memorable experience.
Firstly, the environment was welcoming from the moment we stepped foot into the establishment. The hostesses were smiling and friendly upon entry, and we seated ourselves momentarily by the fireplace in anticipation of our table being ready. The ambiance was elegant and classy, yet warm and inviting.
Our server, Kailey, was incredibly precious: She was personable, charming, informative, elaborative, and attentive, and contributed significantly to what was undoubtedly a positive first-time experience - we couldn't have been more pleased with her level of service, and would not hesitate to request her on subsequent visits.
For our appetizer, we ordered the barbecued shrimp, which was PERFECTLY cooked and sinfully delicious: It was succulent and indulgent, and the sauce added a buttery sweetness with a subtle hint of barbecue - easily my favorite menu item, hands down.
The Caesar salad preceded my entree and, while fresh, was underwhelming at best. The lettuce was fresh and crispy, and the cherry tomatoes were equally fresh and juicy. The cheese was strong in flavor, which was especially appreciated, and the croutons were light and crunchy with a buttery, garlic flavor. However, the dressing left much to be desired, as it was relatively light in comparison to others. Overall, the Caesar salad as a whole was virtually flavorless, and my least favorite menu item, as a result.
My entree item, the 11 oz filet, was PERFECTLY and BEAUTIFULLY cooked to the desired medium rare. It had a mild, but noticeably 'beefy' flavor, and was satisfyingly tender. The seasonings penetrated beautifully, creating a layered flavor profile that was simple, yet captivating in anticipation of the next bite - 10 out of 10 recommend.
As for the sides, the garlic mashed potatoes were fresh and buttery with a garlic flavor that was noticeable, but not overpowering. The creamed spinach, however, while creamy and smooth was under-seasoned and, much like the Caesar salad, was virtually flavorless, as a result.
The chocolate sin cake was a pleasant conclusion to our dining experience, as it was densely chocolaty with a 'coffee' undertone. The raspberry sauce was especially sweet, but paired well with the boldness of the chocolate, and the texture was effortlessly creamy with a 'melt-in-your-mouth' feel that christened each bite just as, if not more delicious than the one prior.
While I do feel as though some of the menu items were a bit overpriced for the quality, regarding the experience as a whole, I would definitely recommend Ruth's Chris Steak House - my first visit will most likely be far...
Read moreMy husband and I ate a very expensive dinner at the Midlothian Ruth's Chris to celebrate our wedding anniversary yesterday. We were initially quite impressed by the incredibly beautiful mansion and the stunning woodwork in the restaurant. Then we were seated and it went downhill from there. We were given menus but no wine list, a glass of water each, and then treated to our waitress launching into personal details about her life, none of which we asked for or were interested in, but it seemed she just could not stop herself. Then she left our table and moved on to the next table where she chatted for several minutes with those customers. After what seemed like an interminable wait, she finally returned to our table and immediately started describing the menu to us. When I was able to finally interrupt her I asked, "Um, could we get a drink?" She stopped and seemed confused and then said, "Oh, sure" and took our drink orders and left. It's important to note that the restaurant was not even 40 percent occupied. They were not busy. The review of this restaurant will take up so much space that it has actually inspired my husband and me to start a blog reviewing local restaurants, so I'll try to wrap things up here. If Ruth's Chris is honestly serving USDA Prime, then I must go and hug the butcher in my local grocery store because he's selling me USDA Choice fillets that are far more tender and better tasting than the chewy gristly meat were were served at Ruth's Chris. The steaks were not cooked correctly, both of ours were raw in the center although my husband ordered medium and I ordered medium rare. Our appetizer of lamb lollipops was tough. I ordered the beet salad and it was very good but my husband's Caesar salad arrived covered in so much shaved parmesan that it looked more like a cheese plate than a salad. The vegetables served with our steaks; baked potato, steamed broccoli, asparagus, were totally unremarkable.
The dinner would have been awful at a third of the price but when you factor in the high price being charged for barely edible offerings, what happened to us almost criminal. I was excited about this dinner and encouraged by the reviews I read here, but what is being described in the other reviews bears no resemblance to our experience or the experiences of the other diners who were at the Midlothian Ruth's Chris last night. I'm sorry I have to even give it one star in order to post this review, because it doesn't even...
