The food was ok. I don't think we will be returning though. Our order took a bit longer than we expected for the starter. The sushi was delivered at a decent pace or around 7 to 10 minutes. Hibachi was very slow with complications at around 35 minutes for rare steak. Wait times are acceptable to some degree and understable to a degree and going to hundreds of places around here I never really take that into factor unless I wait over 45 minutes. They don't negate my dining experience to a high degree. Sushi was acceptable in quality though I didn't get to sample a large selection because of the type of arrangement coming into this restaurant explained below. Who knows if they have better sushi or not that I haven't tried. Quite frankly I won't risk trying sushi here or items that I won't like.
The steak was pretty good as well as the vegetables though I do believe they need to put on their menu that the hibachi items do come with vegetables and what comes with what. They have a detailed explanation of each piece of sushi you order so it's kind of strange you're left in limbo as to the extras. This wouldn't normally be a problem at any other establishment. The reason why this is a negative is because of the below.
The reason why I don't believe we will be returning is because the atmosphere created by the staff or the said terms of dining at this establishment. While the staff were attentive to a degree filling drink orders and anticipating desire for refills there was a layer of stress added to a dining experience where we were sort of thrust into this limbo about pricing from the "If you don't eat everything on your plate we will charge you extra". They made it to abundantly clear you will be charged extra for not cleaning your plate. At first I thought this was a joke because it sounded rather visceral in the original terms the way the hostess had stated but after waiter took our order he was abundantly clear that this was one of the requirements of dining if you didn't want to pay extra. While I understand that people may have come in and ordered six rolls and ate 4 wasting company money it still feels a bit pushed because you have no comprehension of what you'll be charged for failing to meet the demands of consuming their food. Will you be charged if you pick your onions out of something you had no knowledge came with onions? Will you be charged if you order a serving size that is above your means to finish as a light eater? Will you be charged if you fail to eat all of your desert? What about the rice that's served with dishes(I'm talking about your first serving you order)? Maybe you would have liked fried over white but were never given the option and generally don't consume white rice solo by itself? These are things I wonder. How much do they charge extra? Is it per ounce or pound? Because of this I shoveled down all the extra items that I really didn't care for that I had no knowledge were extra to the order. I pretty much forced diarrhea because of this. I would have had a better experience if I thought I wouldn't be charged for every scrap left on the plate. In any case I won't be returning because it added a degree of stress to the whole meal pretty much ruining my experience. I felt like I was more required to eat my food than enjoy the actual experience of being able to try new things.
Room for improvement is a clear statement of how much you charge somewhere on the table and what you charge for regarding the "clean your plate" policy. It makes for a high pressure eating environment when you're shelling out 20 bucks to relax and leisure. I know for sure these policies preclude me from ever bringing business clients to eat unless I wanted to pad the bill for their overindulgences. Note that I rarely if ever leave comments unless my experiences is...
Read moreWe have been regulars here for years.....This USED to be our regular spot that we frequented at least weekly if not bi or tried weekly at times. I think this will be our last visit here... We knew the servers and staff... Gina, Viana, Mariah and Luke were all great and are also all GONE now! New manager is running the place into the ground for real for real. We waited 45 minutes to even be sat after being told it would be 15 to 20 minutes. While waiting I went in to use the restroom, only to find there was 1 big party and a couple other small tables but a predominantly empty restaurant... this perturbed me as there was at least 8 to 10 parties inside and outside waiting to be sat. This NEVER was how this place was before. After finally getting sat... over an hour later we started to eat.....the meal itself did not make up for it either.... we have a bit of a routine with a few possible variables but for the most part we do the same stuff... The salad bar was incomplete for dinner menu... the cucumbers were bland and not at all what they usually are..yuck. My rolls were more rice than anything. The shrimp tempura he had looked like mini shrimp and was overcooked. The vegetable tempura was greasy too boot. They actually ran out of clear soup and had another couple hours left in their evening...The chicken yakisoba... just oh my... smh... the chicken was WAY over cooked and pretty much inedible even with the greasy, saucey, and almost slimyish noodles. Some was inedible and with how this new manager is about forcing people to eat or be charged extra is ATROCIOUS! I understand you dont want people to excessively order and waste but if you do not like something or it comes out poorly, one should not have to worry about forcing themselves to eat it or pay more than they already are for all you can eat. HORRIBLE business. I did not even both to get my usual chicken teriyaki out of sheer fear and already having my stomach rebel against my food choice. Skipped dessert too... we were just so disappointed we did not even want to be at the restaurant anymore. The manager is constantly on her phone and does not seem to care for the flow or quality of customer experience. It truly saddens us as we have had many a date night, lunches, family outings and great times there. If this was the 1st bad experience itd be bad enough but sad to say it is not. The good times out weighed the bad so we would wander back to our old stomping grounds. But I think they broke it this time... I do not see us returning to this location. The only decent aspect of our experience was our server Katie. Who we tipped nicely for her efforts and...
Read moreThe 3 comes from the food always being what’s expected- but the Hull Street location’s service has always been horrible. We wait a long period of time before visiting this location in hopes of improvement. The midlothian turnpike is most certainly the superior with expectations. Our server was in a rush the entire time- the host continued to seat this girl without letting her greet the other people around her- my daughter had to ask for her food twice before receiving it. We never received refills without request. And don’t get me wrong I’ve worked food service - I get it… but the lack of actual customer service this girl lacked was unapologetically horrible— along with the hosts lack of communication and the lack of any management team anywhere. No wonder why the girl couldn’t concentrate. Before going to the bathroom we asked for our check and Togo drinks- upon getting out he bathroom our tab which is at this point placed on the side of the booth and the host IS SEATING PEOPLE AT THE TABLE WE WERE STILL AT NEEDING TO PAY- now if she had a speedy manner about her and I had faith that she was going to come back to our table in a timely manner and not stop it three other tables before doing something like she’s been doing the entire time- We would’ve waited to go to the bathroom until she got back. To clean our table before even having our tab paid was the most unprofessional thing I’ve ever ever experienced in a restaurant and that’s crazy. This location makes it so hard to want to tip your server well and I’m one to go out and tip $15-$20 minimum - I wasn’t going to say anything about the awful service until we walked out of the bathroom to actually watch our seats being sat again— Still had to ask for our to go cups, and I had to pay for my tab standing in the back by the restroom while trying to keep my child from...
