We flew down from Tulsa just to visit this spot based on previous reviews and it did not disappoint!!! I would come back every week if I could.
You should visit this spot. It’s an ABSOLUTE MUST for everything from the service to the atmosphere to the food. Let’s start with the atmosphere. It’s an adorable antique Victorian home moved from Mesquite Texas to Midlothian and completely renovated. Each room is decorated to a different theme to match the Clue board game. Such a unique environment. Very relaxed but upscale.
The service is top notch! From being greeted at the hostess stand, to the bar service and our wonderfully sweet and attentive waitress, we were so impressed. The owners greated us and were very attentive to all their guests. Really, really top notch service.
The food, I mean, that’s why we wanna go anywhere, right? They are farm to table, so their menu will change seasonally based on what is readily available. All of their meat is brought in from a family owned ranch in northwestern Texas. all of their vegetables are market fresh and delicious. We started our evening with the bone marrow (meat butter! 🤤) which was a huge serving of both halves of the bone and sprinkled with a chimichurri sauce. It also had an arugula salad with an olive oil dressing glaze on it. This was delicious and a perfect start to the meal. We then shared the rainbow salad that had a homemade green goddess dressing on it and a fantastic selection of fresh vegetables. I could eat the salad for a meal with some salmon on top of it. A definite suggestion to anybody who likes a salad for their meal. Then for dinner, we had the beef tenderloin (filet) and the gnocchi. Their gnocchi selection will change with the season, but we heard from other guests we visited with that every variation they have ever had is incredibly delicious. The gnocchi was really fantastic and had wonderful flavors and a great texture. The steak was one of the finest and most tender filets I’ve ever had. After that, we moved onto dessert because we were complete gluttons for punishment and wanted to test the limits of how full we could stuff ourselves. We had the peach cobbler (a family recipe) that was perfectly golden brown with chunks of peaches and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and the blueberry clafoutis that was a blueberry custard with sauce and chantilly cream (not overly sweet, right up my alley and to die for!).
We also had several cocktails and the bartender is very good!
Midlothian has a real gem in this place, I wish it was...
Read moreI had my birthday dinner here last night. I made reservations for our group of 30, but we ended up with only about 23.
I was greatly disappointed. My Dad’s Ribeye was terrible He said it was the worst ribeye he’s ever had, and was $150. My mom’s food, my husband’s food and my food were all extremely salty. The burger meat was very dry. My friends’s $40 salad was gross as well.
The staff acted very strange and as if we were a burden.
They were obsessed with keeping us all in our seats instead of letting us socialize freely on the patio, despite me telling them that I would let them know who all was on what ticket at the end of our meal and not to worry about it too much.
They gave our kids wiki sticks (wax craft sticks) to play with, but then told them not to play with them directly on the table because they will leave a mark on the table and told us that the owner, Ashton, doesn’t allow crayons because she’s too worried about kids coloring on the tables. It was weird.
The other owner (Ashton’s mom) kept arguing with Tina (our waitress) and getting her flustered. I honestly think that was a big part of why the staff was so akward with us, it seemed like they were terrified of upsetting her.
I paid $400 just for the patio rental and the food was astronomical in price.
It rained while we were out there and some of my guests were getting wet, but we could not move our tables or chairs from where we were getting wet because there’s a $200 fine if you move any of their furniture.
Thank God, some of the people in our party had to cancel last minute because there was one table on the patio that was completely off-limits to us because it had rained previously and they said that the table and the chairs were wet so we were not allowed to use them. If all 30 people from our party had showed up, they would not have had anywhere to sit.
It was a terrible experience to be honest. The staff made everyone feel so awkward.
When my mom said it was just her on her ticket the waitress said “Oh it’s just you?” In a snarky tone. My mom said it made her feel bad.
The Tumble Weed appetizer was delicious, and it’s a beautiful place but, the service is terrible and the rest of the food was not good.
Everyone in my party was disappointed.
None of us will be back. It is really sad because this place has such a beautiful atmosphere and has the potential...
Read moreOverall a very unpleasant dining experience. First - the whiskeys are WAY over priced! They want $40 for a 2oz pour of Macallan 12!! An entire bottle costs around $86 - retail. This is usually around $17 anywhere else...maybe $20 at a really high end joint. Good luck recognizing any wines on the wine list or beers they have. Whoever made their list must REALLY love IPA's. That or they are a hipster who LOVES hoppy beers. No domestic or imports we all know (or like). You're in Midlothian, TX - know your audience. We had ordered a bottle of wine, and when the server brought the bottle, she couldn't open it...it was a twist top. She kept saying her "hands were sweaty" and couldn't grip it. Just what I want...my servers sweat on my wine. I finally asked to take the bottle from her and I opened it. Well...this particular wine tasted like Welch's grape juice. She did allow us to send the bottle back and get another selection. Since I really didn't recognize the majority of the beers, I asked if i could have a tiny sample of their "most like a domestic" beer on draft. The server told me..."we don't sample the beers." So we can send an entire bottle of wine back, but can't sample a draft beer?? I ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf and it was raw in the middle, the bacon wasn't done, and my sides were barely room temp (and the two bites of meatloaf I had were pretty tasteless). The other people I was with also commented that their food was a tad warmer than room temperature. The owner came by the table and inquired about me sending my food back and not wanting any replacement. She tried to smooth it over and said...."You don't like your burgers medium?" I actually do like my burgers medium, but my meatloaf was raw in the center, not medium. And you don't cook meatloaf medium. Then she talked about how they cooked it and so forth. Well.....I'm an Executive Chef and understand cooking techniques and proper cooking. I've also built and ran resturants, and understand about wanting to go out on a limb on some things, but also have to balance knowing your area and demographics (talking about the beer and wine selections). Wanted so badly to...
