I typically don't write reviews for restaurants, but after this experience, I felt inclined to. To begin with, the hostess at the front had an attitude, which already set the tone for the meal. I had some questions about food options, as this was my first time going, and her responses had a tone and dryness that felt very unwelcoming. It didn't help that there were no other customers in the restaurant as well, which honestly is a red flag.
As for the food, I had the steak fried rice, and it was quite bland. The flavour did not taste anything like traditional asian cuisine, not even the typical "americanized" flavour. Even with the additional sauce options at the table, it still wasn't enough. The meat had an odd, chewy texture, similar to pre-cooked, frozen meat. Actually, it 100% had to be frozen, pre-cooked meat. With how fast the meal came out, there was no way that it was cooked fresh, not to mention the few cold chunks of rice. Very big portions, but unfortunately probably one of the worst fried rice I have had. The sushi, on the other hand, was good and enjoyable.
The only thing that somewhat saved the experience was an employee, who I am assuming was one of the managers. She was very kind and accomodating to us, which was a nice switch from the original hostess we had.
Overall, I hope they were just having an "off-day," but regardless, I have no intentions of returning to Hibachio again. For the price, you're better off going to Genghis Grill, where you know the food is fresh with plenty of tasty options. I was very disappointed with...
Read moreHoly cow this place is bad. I don't know how it's still running. I'm all for helping the mom-n-pop local buisness. But man, this was not at all up to par. I would recommend assessing your cook team. Because it's a mess. Food isn't good. It's not really because it's not authentic. It's the mere food was just nasty. I hate to describe food this way. I got fried rice, and it was white rice with a cup of soy sauce and vegies. Dude I can take white rice and throw veggies and mix it with a cup of soy sauce myself. I'm not even mad I paid $13, I'm upset I kept eating hoping it was me (It wasn't, it was the food).
Now the next part was the sushi, my 5yr old daughter, maybe she's a little spoiled since we just moved from Japan down here to Midlo. But she spat it out and told me it was disgusting. Not my words.
The next part was the guoza, dude how do you mess up pan fried guoza? Well they did, it was hard and cold...at the same time. The filling tasted like processed frozen... who knows what.
I feel horrible for leaving this review. But it's the truth. My family left soooo disappointed. I wanted to love it so much. But was left with such a void. Now when I drive by this establishment I just think of how embarrassing it is that everyone eating here thinks this is "Japanese" food. Drive down to hachie for something a little more tolerable. #sorrynotsorry.
I gave it 2 stars because the hostess/waiters working here are awesome and they were super friendly. So good job on this part. Fail on...
