Americus Coney & Grill — Restaurant in Milford Charter Township

With everything going on in the restaurant industry lately, and the decade and a half I spent working in restaurants, I have so much sympathy and patience for waitstaff and kitchen staff.

Today was different. The restaurant was less than half full and there were at least 6 staff members waking around. We were seated and then waited 15 minutes for someone to come to our table. We asked the different staff members to let someone know we were there, and still, nothing. They all kept clearing tables and picking up tips, but no one came to us. Eventually a waitress came over, set down silverware, and then said "Do you know what you want?". Not any kind of hello or apology or anything about our long wait.

We ordered and it took another 10 minutes just for drinks to come. When I got my coffee, the mug was covered in dried food with things floating in it. The silverware looked like it hadn't been washed.

There are fruit flies literally everywhere.

The food was awful today. Everything had random green onions and mushrooms and random things in it. Saganaki pita pieces looked like they were cut on a dirty counter with pieces of potato and cheese on them. Undercooked egg whites were clear, toast and English muffin were burnt, everything was luke warm at best. Son's hot dog was still cold. The fruit cup was mushy and still had the rinds on it in some places and random green onions mixed in. Hollandaise sauce was chunky and cold. They forgot some of the items after multiple requests.

The waitress didn't come back until maybe 15 minutes later and brought the bill. I tried to flag her down to tell her about the experience, but she never came back.

Total for myself and two kids meals was almost $40. When I told the girl at the front that the food was cold, we barely touched the food and things were dirty, she said "Okay." and repeated my total. No offer to fix it or an apology.

We used to love this restaurant, but even before the pandemic, things started to slip. Today, we were in the area and figured we'd try it out again. Now, it just feels like a really awful...

Went for lunch and there were two other tables there and it was dead silent - no music, TV, nothing. We could hear all the staff talking in the back. Not a huge deal, just a little awkward. Our food was not that great. Edible, but not great. Since the restaurant was silent, we heard our server complaining loudly about a staff member showing up to eat on her day off and how it wasn't fair that they were short-staffed and she didn't have to work. Our server never came back to our table after bringing out our food. We sat there for a good 20 minutes listening to another server sitting in a nearby booth having a very loud phone conversation on speakerphone. We ended up flagging her down to ask for our server, and she told us they just did shift change and our server had left. We thought it was really weird that she would just leave without saying anything and no one was assigned to take over for her. Finally a third server brought us our check before we even asked for it, which normally we'd consider a bit rude and presumptuous but given the circumstances we were actually grateful for at least one attentive staff member. Overall, we paid way too much for mediocre at best food and a very strange and uncomfortable ambience. I have nothing but sympathy for restaurant workers who are busting their butts and dealing with horrible customers, but that was not the case here. It seemed more like laziness and extremely poor training on their part, and/or restaurant owners and managers hiring anyone they can just to have warm...

Food is not bad. But service is horrible if you’re not white. The first time we brushed it off as not intentional, this time my wife (who is Korean) was treated horribly. First, they don’t bring her drink, then bring three soups, one with no spoon, quest who’s that was. Then brought out everyone’s food but hers. When the food did come, we asked if the side dish wash coming too. With a horrible attitude we were told “ the gravy is in the microwave.” After the waitress brought everyone a carry out box except for my wife, I went to just grab one for her. The waitress came over to tell us she would have gotten one for her if she had asked. No one else had to ask though. My wife asked if she was racist against Asian people, instead of denying that (which you would expect) the lady just went off on her about how she should’ve just asked for a carry out box. To say the least we will never go back to this place, and we’ll advise all of our friends to do the same. And if you’re not white, maybe you shouldn’t go either.
