Honestly I used to say I came with the building. Managed it from Lu and Rubys, Rack Room and Tavern 131… nothing compares to the Lu and Rubys days.. what a complete and utter disappointment! After spending $60 for carry out , ordering a chicken carbonara ( $5 for added chicken) a French dip sandwich and a $9 slice of carrot cake. I stood amazed. I’ve never gone out of my way to write a review like this, but this is a clear indication what happens when there is no culinary experience or management overhead that’s actually caring or incorporating the functionality and consistency and quality inn not only the food for the entire experience. For starters the au jus that came with a French dip sandwich that served on a brioche bun it’s a French dip on a hamburger bun for god sake was so reduced and salty from probably sitting in a pan all day it was over bearing to the pallet next carbonara that was $22 in total for the added chicken was not made with angel hair pasta as menu described it was made with linguine but the chicken was clearly frozen and dethawed/cooked in the microwave so rubbery in fact that it squeaked on your teeth like a Wisconsin cheese curd next the nine dollar slice of carrot cake which is more like a gelatinous odd bread pudding texture was as thin of a slice but it didn’t even go to my first knuckle on my finger and was not an even as tall as my pointer finger the overwhelming taste of the refrigerator walk-in that was absorbed into the frosting on the cake you could tell it’s never been covered in the walk-in additionally they put this caramel reduction sauce over the top of it which just made it more gelatinous it more I don’t know if this is a combination of why they say never to order carry out because they don’t care when they put it in a box versus presenting it on a plate in the dining room but I actually had to call my daughter to ask if she’d stop at McDonald’s on her way home for me because I will not eat this food nor will I ever come back to that establishment best of luck to them hope they can get their...
Read moreVisited for birthday dinner. Not a high energy welcome. We were sat and given menus. As it was my birthday and Halloween, I asked for any special, seasonal drinks. Nothing for Halloween. I suggested the bartender could improvise. That didn't fly. Ordered French 75 because everything else sounded too sweet. I mentioned to the waiter that at least it had some cranberry for Fall flavor. Drink came with no cranberry in it. It also was somewhat tepid, as though it had not been shaken with ice and glass was not cold/chilled. Kinda disappointing as it was a birthday beverage. Took us a little bit to get the waiters attention again. He said he would make it right. They essentially added cranberry to it. I couldn't detect that they had actually shaken it with ice in a shaker like I had asked. If they had, the serving glass should be pretty cold/frosty to the touch. Not even close. Honestly, I'm just going to say that they don't really have any elevated cocktail making skills. The the quesadilla was good, actually better than good. not sure what the heck happened to the French dip. The Anjou sauce was thick, like a gravy, as if they had added cornstarch to it. Very unappealing and bland. Anjou is supposed to be very brothy and very flavorful. This anjou was neither. That was disappointing. Service friendly, but a bit too casual; they weren't really trying to knock it out of the park. And as it was my birthday, I feel like they could've placed a greater emphasis on the fact that it was a special occasion to try to make the night somewhat special but they just said will try to fix my drink because we know it's your birthday. I really wanted this place to be great and it was just mediocre on all fronts. With craft cocktails so prevalent, I'm surprised they don't have much skill set in this arena. There's a ton of places in town that would make a killer drink. I think they need to improve their cocktail game for sure. Atmospheric is okay. A bit generic, mirroring the overall experience. Not the best, not...
Read moreUPDATE: Thank you to Michael and the whole Black Label Tavern crew for going above and beyond to make up for our first experience. We understand that any new restaurant has its kinks to work out and when we were invited back, we couldn’t refuse. And we’re so glad we took them up on it! Wonderful customer service from all involved. And the food was perfection! We ordered pretzel sticks, chicken tacos, and the black label burger. I told my husband it was the best burger I had ever had! We will definitely be back and recommend to all our friends. Thank you again!!
Original review: I will start with the positives. Staff is lovely. We were greeted immediately by a very friendly man and seated right away. Our waitress was sweet and attentive, we enjoyed her and appreciated how hard she tried to make things right. The space is beautiful and not too loud. We came because of the numerous good things we’d heard about the place on the local Facebook page. Our appetizer was delicious. Nachos with chorizo. We’re Latino and very picky about chorizo and guacamole. Both were perfection! Loved the mix of toppings, some we wouldn’t have expected.
The negatives: our entrees were a mess. Firstly, we waited quite a long time for our food. We didn’t mind, we know the place is newer and working out the kinks. But we were shocked when the food came out cold. My husband had a buffalo wrap with fries. The chicken in the wrap was cold to the touch and the fries were not even warm. The buffalo sauce didn’t have any kick either.
I ordered chicken carbonara. My chicken was missing. The waitress explained she was new and that was her misunderstanding. She tried very hard to make it right, even offering to have a whole new entree whipped up for me to take home. I appreciated this but declined… I honestly didn’t even want to finish the one in front of me. While I didn’t expect traditional carbonara, the sauce was so overly creamy it was barely edible… especially since it was cold...
