I’m a local teacher, and I never been to this restaurant before. However, after a long day at school, I decided to pop in with my daughter to get a sandwich and try some of their items. We ordered and had our food by 6:45 PM. We were eating in the dining room, and just as we finished and cleaned up, a male employee came out and told us that we needed to clean up and leave because the dining room closes at 7 PM. No one told that to us when we ordered, so we were unaware. However, it was only 7:10 PM and we had just finished eating. When I asked why, he said because he has to clean up the dining room . As I shared with him, we would leave, but we would never be back. His response was that he’s just an employee trying to do his job and he needs to clean the tables. Employee or not, I found that to be very disrespectful. When we went to check the hours for the restaurant, it stated they were open until 8 PM. I looked on the website and could not find anything about the dining room being closed at 7 PM, nor did the woman who took our order explain that to us. Now, there could’ve been some unknown rule about the dining room closing at 7 PM, but I didn’t see it and I surely didn’t know that. I would’ve definitely gone somewhere else. I don’t like to spend money on food and not be able to sit calmly and enjoy it. I have never in all of my life had such an interesting situation occur.
Additionally, there was another family who had ordered and had just sat down after 7 PM. When they were called (via the little buzzer) to come up and get their order, the male employee told them that they would have to leave as well. He had their food in a bag and handed it to the woman and her children. I was mortified that an event like this was even occurring.
I hope that they have a thriving business because situations like this will not have them get repeat customers and the word-of-mouth will be poor at best. I can guarantee them that I will not be going back. There are many places to get sandwiches, and the sandwiches that they make can clearly be made at home. Even though the names for the sandwiches are unique, and the combinations may be unique, anyone can buy those ingredients and make them at home. For me, it was more about convenience and supporting a local business. Although the food was delicious, the service and treatment were not up to par and will never be tolerated. Clearly, my money, and my business was not important to their staff.
I could’ve just left and forgotten about Picasso’s, but I feel that it’s important for all potential customers to know about this experience and how it made us feel.
With the state of restaurants today trying to keep their heads above water, a business can’t just have an interesting or unique product. They need to have the service that goes along with it. I hope that they hear this feedback and share it with their employees, and maybe try to improve on a clearly defined deficit at...
Read moreDropped in after a quick search for places to eat(I was passing through from Buffalo to Cleveland). Walked in and was given some recommendations from the host as I was unfamiliar with the sandwiches. Ended up ordering the Mona Lisa and tater tots with a fountain drink. I opted for the Mona Lisa because I felt like some of the others could be a bit too heavy.
No joke, this is one of the best sandwiches I've had in quite a long while. Despite the unusual combination of ingredients (artichoke hearts, baby spinach, creamy pesto, etc), this thing was an explosion of flavor. The artichoke hearts really cut through the richness of the havarti and creamy pesto. The bread was perfectly toasted, buttery with a satisfying crust without being dry.
The tater tots were also a big surprise. They were more like mini potato croquettes. Golden brown, crispy exterior, but soft and pillowy on the inside, with just enough texture to remind you it's a tot and not mashed potato. I can't remember the Time I've enjoyed tater tots so much.
The fountain drink was fine. Syd's is the local brewer and I tasted the root beer and cream soda. Both were good and had a richness of flavor usually lacking from generic store brands. I'm no pop connoisseur so I don't have anything to add other than I enjoyed drinking what I did, I don't otherwise drink a lot of sodas.
The only regret is that I was merely passing through and as someone who lives more than 2000 miles away, I regret that I won't have any real opportunities to visit...
Read moreTruly an easy-to-miss gem in what can be a bit of a stale Erie food scene when you get past the fancier waterfront dining (outside breakfast, at least). My family stopped by for lunch after traveling from Pittsburgh for a few days getaway to the area. I found this place due to online researching, since it unassumingly sits in the parking lot of the Millcreek Mall.
The many unique and intriguing sandwiches are named after classic art pieces and other bits of artistic inspiration. I had the Van Gogh after the gentlemen at the register mentioned it was a staff favorite- and it lived up to expectations- just a gooey and flavorful mess of fun. My wife had the Starry Night and said it was one of the best interpretations of a reuben she had had. My kids got the Pizza Sandwich and the Penne Mac and Cheese, and both happily gobbled up there choices, and we all enjoyed the well made tots that came on the side.
The restaurant itself has chalkboard tabletops that you can create your own masterpieces on, as well as a pleasant outdoor patio area for nicer days. Couple that with house sodas and lemonade and a friendly and eager staff- and you have what should be a must stop if in the area and craving a really artistic sandwich and...
