I went to Koshary Station for the first time with my friend Andie and her mom. I had never been there but I must say that it is such a charming place to eat. For us, it's convenient too because it's close to campus where we work. I had their hibiscus juice (recommended by our waitress/cook/owner) which was so satisfying. The hibiscus juice has a wonderful floral yet fruity taste. I would describe it as a less dense grape juice with more of a berry flavor. I loved it so much, I had my husband pick me up another today. I also tried the Moussaka with rice. For those who haven't had Moussaka, it is a vegan dish with fried eggplant, carrots, and peppers. It's a hearty dish which really satisfies the tastebuds. I definitely recommend it especially for those who are vegan and vegetarian. You will love it! I ordered a side of their cheese spring rolls which come with a yogurt type dipping sauce. I'm not entirely sure what kind of cheese but the taste and texture reminds me of a creamy goat cheese and the dipping sauce gave a small kick of savory sweetness. I also had another order for my lunch today. The final dish I tasted (today) was their shrimp pie. There are an explosion of flavors in your mouth with the shrimp, carrots, and peas in a flaky pastry. One word, Amazing! If you haven't checked out this place, I urge you to go. They are affordable and the food is worth...
Read moreThe reviews gave this place almost 5 stars, and I'm wondering if this was rated by their family member and friends to help boost the reviews. First, the owner is the hostess, waiter, and cook all at the same time. One person, that's all you get. The Hawawshi Pie was soggy, when we asked about it she said they make it fresh in the morning and it's "nice and flaky" but in the afternoon they just reheat it in the microwave. The ground meat in was not seasoned at all and was disgusting. The second dish was the Beef Shawarma. I was able to see the owner prepping the food from the kitchen from where I was sitting. I saw her take the food from a container and just microwave it and reheat it. This is not fresh or made-to-order. Not once did I see her cook something on the stove or from scratch. My daughter had chicken nuggets that I could have just bought at McDonald's and it would have been cheaper and better. The mango lemonade was a small drink for $2.99 with no refills. When we asked for water she did not clarify if it was bottled water or tap water. Charging us for the bottled. I could have brought my own drink from my car. One thing I know from watching Gordon Ramsey is that if a restaurant reheats food it's poor quality and prone to be spoiled and you should never eat there again. Please do not waste your money on...
Read moreKoshary Station's staff and owners were all very welcoming and actively sought to answer any questions I had about a dish or the menu. I went in hungry so I could not decide and chose several items for take out later.
As a sit-down lunch I had the beef shawarma sandwich with french fries. I was told that they make the shawarma in a pan on the stove and not on a spit, so prepare yourself for a different shawarma experience.
The meat was very tender but not heavily spiced like you get elsewhere. The meat acts as a pleasurable texture element and the sandwich primary flavors are the wonderful cheese, peppers, and onions. DO NOT FORGET TO USE THE WHITE SAUCE! The white yoghurt sauce takes an already great sandwich to the next level!!
I tried two of the desserts and the baklava roll was really nice with a great blend of flavor and nuttiness. This is not a honey-forward desert like you would find in a Greek restaurant.
To be fully fair on expectations, this is not a restaurant that goes heavy on spices like an Ethiopian or Indian restaurant. This is a restaurant where you go for an affordable hearty meal that is easily understandable and filling even if you might normally be shy when it comes to international food.
Give this place a try and I hope you...
