I have to admit: I came back for nostalgia. I remember back when this kid from the Philly area came here in 1985. The Sugar Bowl was one of the first places that I tried. Coming from Philly - I had no idea what a grinder was, so I asked. Basically, a cold hoagie (or other sandwich) that was put in the oven to heat it up. So, I got an Italian grinder. Basically, a heated up Italian Hoagie. It was amazing - taking something that I loved and turning it into a hot, crispy, gooey, delicious mess. Today, I got the same. The ingredients, the build - all on point. However, it was only heated up enough to make the bread slightly crispy. There was no gooey center mess of melted cheese and all of the other ingredients. I should’ve known something wasn’t right when they handed me the wrapped sandwich and it wasn’t hot. Service was great, but please teach your staff how to make a proper grinder.Everything thing is there - it’s just oven training. I ate the whole thing in the gazebo by Dutcher and it was delicious. Just 10% away from taking me...
Read moreI don't like putting 5 stars, its not that I don't think perfection can't be reach but rather I want those 5 stars to mean something. My parents both went to Millersville University, while there this is the first place my mom ever had Stromboli. While their regular Stromboli is great, the Cheese steak Stromboli is better, to the point I have never actually had anything else from this place. The steak, cheese, onions, and marinara blend beautifully together in a perfectly cooked crust.
So how good is this, I have had Stromboli at many pizza places because I live 50 mins away and their stromboli is worth a 50 min drive. Now my parents moved last year to New Jersey, two and half hours away, and today on my way to visit I picked up two large Stromboli and drove them to Ocean City, New Jersey. After a two and half hour delivery, they were still perfect (don't recommend). Will someone enjoy it as much as me or my parents... um probably not, is worth a trip...
Read moreLook, I know I'm a pretty easy grader. But this place has the best strombolies I've ever had. And I'm old. Nestled against the side of Millersville University's Stadium, the outside looks pretty run down. Inside its a nice little pizza shop with a fair amount of seating and a couple TVs. 30 years ago when i attended MU, midnight strombolis were a common thing. I went back there today and ordered a cheesesteak stromboli with sauce and onions. I know it's common to build up things from your youth to be better than they really were. And that is absolutely not what i found. Honestly it was better than I remembered, and I'm now kicking myself for not buying one to bring home. The inside is a real philly cheesesteak, and the outside is a slightly crispy layer of crust that is not overly thick. My mouth is now watering again...thanks a lot, Google. Go to the Sugar...
