OK Google... Not sure what is going on... but you simply changed the name of the previous restaurant that was located here; Pho Hoang Van, instead of listing it as closed and creating a new listing / location for reference... My original ratings, review and pics were still up... So I had to edit/modify it for DaLat
I was a bummed out when one of my all time favorite Vietnamese spots Pho Hoang Van shut down...but was a bit relieved to find out DaLat took its place. I'm presuming this is the same DaLat from DT SJ...Heard a lot of good things about the SJ DaLat, I just can't remember if I ate there before.
We came for lunch on a Friday afternoon. The place was fairly empty, I don't think a lot of people knew DaLat was open. Got seated immediately, and ordered our food. Something my friend ordered took a bit longer to make and came out last...can't remember what it was. My food came out rather quickly...so no complaints from me.
~ 5. Bánh Xèo - 4/5 The Bánh Xèo here is brilliant, tasty, not oily at all with good flavor and consistency. Definitely a generous portion with plenty of veggies, and they don't skimp on anything. This can be a meal onto itself.
~ 48. Hủ Tiếu Đà Lạt Dặc Biệt - 4/5 {Rice Noodle Soup w/ Jumbo Shrimp, Crab Leg & Meat (Dry)} I chose the dry option where you get the soup on the side. Brilliant! I could choose to put as much soup in as I wanted to eat this dish like a dipping noodle. Tasty! Full of flavor, cooked perfectly and once again a healthy portion. Net time I'll try the soup version.
DaLat Thank you!!! I'm a big fan of your food, and love that you are worthy replacement for Pho Hoang Van.
Well, well, well...
A newcomer. The new kid on the block...a new Pho spot! Just in case you didn't get the jest...this place is NEW!
What an amazing performance by a rookie! Best one I saw...so far! The food here is brilliant. Pho Hoang Van is clean, spacious, welcoming with a friendly staff and has some mighty tasty food! I was warmly greeted by a lady when I first came in, which was a pleasant change...if you are a regular at Pho spots you know what I'm talking about. Although, I must admit, it is getting better...like way better than before. Then there is the friendly gentleman that took my order, might be the owner or the manager...cheery o'l chap, came across as polite, friendly and genuine.
I usually get the standard beef combination Pho. This time I wanted to try something a bit different. So, I opted for the Hoang Van Special Egg Noodle Soup. I liked the thought of the unique house specials, where you can get the soup on the side with dry noodles. The soup had some amazing flavor, not too salty, nor did it taste like it was drenched in MSG. Just brilliant; the delicate balance of soft boiled Quail eggs, a quaint amount of shallots for flavor and a hint of parsley accompanied by a couple of Shrimp.
Then there was the rest of the dish; the dry noodles! The noodles were amazing, definitely dry...but perfectly done! I couldn't figure out how they did the noodles...fried? No, not quite, I didn't think it was oily. Boiled, steamed maybe...not too sure. I just know they were great. The presentation was outstanding as well. I wasn't prepared for the fried chip with the Shrimp bound with cheese I think...delish!! I was also a big fan of the Garlic and herbs that accompanied the noodles. I think they fried or roasted the Garlic, PHOnomenal! I only wish there was more beef in the bowl, but I'm not so sure if they could fit much more in there...lol.
On my way out I saw a table with some ladies having crepes of all sorts. Can't wait to return and try...
Read moreMy experience at DaLat Restaurant was a mix of highs and lows, with their Egg Noodle Soup with Jumbo Shrimp and Meat standing out as a delightful and delicious signature dish. The flavors in the soup were fantastic, and the jumbo shrimp and meat were cooked to perfection, adding a rich and satisfying element to the dish. It's certainly a must-try for any seafood lover.
On the other hand, our choice of Satay Beef with rice turned out to be a bit of a letdown. The menu failed to mention that the dish was extremely spicy, catching us off guard. While some people might enjoy a spicy kick, it would have been much appreciated if the restaurant had indicated the level of spiciness to help customers make an informed decision before ordering.
Aside from the flavors of the food itself, there was one concerning observation during our meal. Towards the end, we noticed one of the workers engaging in an unappetizing practice. They were collecting the chili oil leftovers from each table and combining them back into a large container before redistributing it to the other tables. This recycling of chili oil seemed unsanitary and raised some questions about the overall hygiene practices in the restaurant. Thankfully, we noticed this after finishing our meal, but it did leave us feeling uneasy about the restaurant's cleanliness standards.
DaLat Restaurant offers some truly tasty dishes, with their Egg Noodle Soup with Jumbo Shrimp and Meat being a standout item that I would happily recommend to others. However, they should improve their menu descriptions to indicate the spice level of dishes and ensure that proper hygiene practices are maintained in their food handling procedures. With these adjustments, DaLat Restaurant could enhance the overall dining experience for...
Read moreI've been here a few times previously. And it is known for their hu tieu which is a Vietnamese seafood soup which you can get in different combinations of clear and egg noodle. This is different from the classic pho that you might be aware of and is a type of soup you should definitely try if you are interested in expanding your palette for Vietnamese noodle soups. This is a decent restaurant to have this soup in, but I would consider this particular version of the soup to be okay. Relative to others that I've tried. There isn't anything wrong with it but it is on the lighter side of flavor for my pallet and I like my soups to have a bit more punch. The other issue I had with the restaurant in general was that we were here on a warm day and we were sitting in a corner spot and sweating the entire time. I like to have my soup very spicy so the combination of a spicy broth and a warm to hot environment is not a comfortable experience. When we asked about the air conditioning, they indicated that it was on full blast which says to me that it is inadequate for warm days and I would avoid coming here again on a warm day. For this reason alone. This is really the only item I've ever had here so I can't comment on their other food. Interestingly enough, this is located in a spot where a pho restaurant used to be that I had worked at...
