We just had one of the worst dining experiences at a non fine dining, fast food dine-in restaurant, the Captain D's in Milton Florida. We waited a very long time for our order. My husband went to inquire about our order. Come to find out one of the young ladies working behind the register had removed our ticket from the order wheel believing our order had already been sent out to us. We are pretty easy going and understand theses things can happen. In fact they have happened at other restaurants and typically the manager or acting manager will make apologies, offer a comped dessert or coupon for our next visit, which we typically will politely decline as an apology is enough. Today though not so much as an apology was given. Then our food was promptly brought out missing my shrimp and salad dressing. My husband again had to go tell them. Then the wrong salad dressing was brought to us. This time having mercy on my husband, I went to get the right dressing. They were out if it. No replacement of other options were offer. I told her she could keep the fat free dressing that I was mistakenly given and returned to my seat without salad dressing for my salad. Had I known that fat free dressing was all they had I would not of paid extra for a salad. I sat looking at my shrimp sitting in the window under the heat lamp for a while and finally deciding they are not going to bring it nor call us to get it and so I went to get it myself. Throughout the 3 mistakes made, never an apology was given. That is the reason for this review. The service was clearly sub par but apparently they don't care if we left unhappy or if they have repeat business. All it would have taken was a...
Read moreThis experience was so disappointing that I felt compelled to warn others. Captain D's was once a place my wife and I enjoyed, but after our recent visit, it’s clear why we stopped eating here in the first place. From the moment we placed our order to the quality of the food, everything was subpar and unacceptable for any dining establishment.
I ordered the seafood sampler, but the employee taking my order couldn’t even tell me what type of fish was included—it was embarrassing to hear them try to explain the breading instead of the actual seafood. When I asked to swap the fish for catfish, I was told that wasn’t even possible. As a workaround, I ordered a single piece of catfish à la carte. For over $3, I received the smallest, saddest excuse for a piece of fish I’ve ever seen. To add insult to injury, my wife ordered the catfish basket and was served proper-sized, decent-looking fillets, while I was left with something completely unappetizing. The one piece of catfish I could eat was tolerable, but everything else was outright disgusting. I couldn't even stomach the rest of my meal.
To make matters worse, it’s obvious that the staff lacks basic training and knowledge about the menu. If they don’t even know what they’re serving, how can customers trust the quality of the food? Captain D’s has gone from being a decent place to eat to a place I wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
Save your money, your time, and your appetite. This place has truly gone downhill, and I won't be making the mistake of coming back again. Don’t waste your hard-earned cash here—you’ll only leave...
Read moreAfter being in Florida for over a year I was very hungry for a Wisconsin fish fry. Captain D’s seem to get fairly decent reviews so I thought I would give it a try. I thought it was a restaurant, which it’s not. It’s kind of a fast food seafood place. You can eat inside, but their dining room is about 1/3 of the size of Arby’s. It seems like most people get stuff to go. I ordered two pieces of fish, six butterfly shrimp, french fries and coleslaw. The french fries needed another three minutes or so in the oil; but the oil obviously wasn’t on the right temperature when they put them in because they were just saturated with grease. Couldn’t eat them. The fish fillets were interesting. The fish was cooked and I liked the taste of the breading/batter; but it was soft, not crispy; and that also was very greasy. The coleslaw that I thought was gonna be my biggest hit of the day, didn’t have enough sauce on it and it was WARM! I’ve never been served warm coleslaw before and I have to say I’m not a fan of it. The six butterflied shrimp were definitely the high point of my meal. They were the perfect color, breading was nice and crispy, and the shrimp had a good taste. I was thoroughly thrilled with the butterfly shrimp so next time if I go back… which I probably will because I’m not gonna base everything on one meal. That’s not fair. If I go back I’m going to get butterfly shrimp and see what they can do with clam strips. I love clam strips so I’ll give...
