What a terrific decision we made to go there after a long work week!!!
I am so happy to have found my new FAVORITE MEXICAN GRILL!
Eduardo, (sweet, kind owner) and wait staff Maria and Diego made our first trip to this delightful restaurant a total pleasure!!!!!!
I was seriously craving some Carne Asada (grilled seasoned Mexican steak) and the photos and reviews looked the best at Montezuma on line compared to other places. Well, I was NOT disappointed.
My Carne Asada dinner was truly 100% AMAZING. I have no idea what special preparation Eduardo does to the meat, but it was PURE HEAVEN. I did find out what I suspected was true. It's the best cut of Black Angus steak that he starts with, so tender and yet seared to perfection on the grill. Crispy edges and the TENDER JUICY meat just melted in my mouth. Perfection. I have been spoiled and now I just don't want steak from anywhere else, anymore.
The portion of the steak was also really generous. The pico de gallo was super fresh and delicious. Rice and beans were very nice, but I focused on my steak and brought the rice and beans home for another day. The flour tortillas and tortilla chips were homemade and fabulous. The queso dip was just right and with a nice addition of real jalapeños at our request. The salsa for the chips was really zesty and spicy, so don't expect it to be bland.
My friend had chicken fajitas and thd "eyes closed with a satisfied smile" look on his face when he tasted the meat was enough to let me know he was really enjoying the experience.
Eduardo came to see what we thought about our first visit to his cozy place, after hearing that we were so happy, he brought us a sample of his shrimp with garlic sauce. (Camerones al mojo de ajo.) Very very fresh large shrimp. I felt like I was being served some fresh catch off the coast of Mexico.
The buttery seasoned shrimp dip for the shrimp was so flavorful (and not greasy.) The garden fresh onions and plump mushrooms in the dish were SO GOOD that I would have paid to have them, even without the shrimp, if I was vegan. Wow. We ate every bite even through we barely had any room left over.
And my friend told me the strawberry cake was light and airy and moist with a chocolate covered strawberry.
What a great experience, super efficient service, happy wait staff and no wait for a table even though they were very busy for a Friday night.
Thanks for such a great evening! WE WILL BE...
Read moreI took my 12 yr old daughter and my 1 yr old son here after a doctor apt. We don’t live on this side of town so I thought it would be a nice treat. I ordered cheese dip and there was a hair in it. I get it. Mistakes happen. I told the server and she just simply said sorry and took it to the back and brought another one. Well then my daughter noticed hanging out of our basket of chips a ball of hair and lint. I tried to brush this off as it was just hanging on the edge of the basket and not in the chips. The food was way over priced. I ordered the taco authentico. Basically street tacos which is my favorite food of all time and I try it at all different Mexican restaurants. The steak was tender but the flavor just wasn’t there. I even tried the sauce that came with it. Then when I asked for salsa verde she said there would be a small up charge. Ok I’m thinking $.50 to $1.00 tops. I only needed a lil cuz the sauce for their tacos sucked. Nope that was $2.00. The tacos with rice and beans were $18 before tax. Then we ordered 1 dessert. Churros for us all to share. My daughter picked hers up off the plate and sure enough there was another hair or long piece of lint. I would have shown the lady but my daughter flung it to the floor in disgust. My baby however loved the kids meal chicken quesadilla. He didn’t eat the beans. Well now it’s been 8 hours and both me and my daughter feel sick. And because I forgot to mention what she ordered, she got the chicken chimichanga with only rice. After a 15% tip cuz I just couldn’t not tip it came out to $72!! I eat Mexican all the time and I never pay this much. I get we ordered dessert but good grief. That should have only been like $6. In the end this was a terrible experience with not so great food. Terrible Cleanliness or whatever u wanna call it since there was hair everywhere and...
Read moreThis is in a small center anchored by a gas station so there's not much parking. But that's the least of your problems with this place. After we were seated one of those robots came by with chips and salsa. That should have clued me in but I chose to overlook since El Porton also has one and they're not bad. Wrong. The cheese dip was cold, yet still runny. It was so runny in fact I couldn't keep it on the chip and kept spilling it everywhere. I know what you're thinking.... that's a you problem. And I would normally agree however I have had more cheese dips in my life than I care to admit and consider myself a professional. Next the chips were awful. Tasted as though someone had tried to season them with old cooking oil. Next problem was my husband ordered a 420 that came out with ice chunks....and was obviously NOT a 420. It was so malty tasting, it either wasn't a 420 or there was something seriously wrong with it. We sent it back but unfortunately it was replaced with the same. He did not drink it at all. My daiquiri was made with cool whip on top which I did not want, did not know it came with, and was not asked about. Unfortunate. Only finished half. Next the main courses... we had veggie enchiladas and the tacos al pastor. Pastor meat was as expected, but the tacos were lightly stuffed shall we say. I believe there was an attempted coverup to hide this under a pile of cilantro. The refried beans and rice were meh. The veggie enchiladas were "cack" as my husband described but the black beans and rice were worse. We were charged over $60 after all of this pre-tip. It was awful. We are taking it of our restaurant list, and I am annoyed for having wasting the...
