Let me explain why Casablanca Brookfield gets just 3 stars and not a 5. It has the potential to be a 5 star restaurant. It is possible that our experience may have been one of the few and far between, as some other reviewers have experienced. Here goes...
Food - fantastic! The portions are very generous and just simply outstandingly delicious. I will return with friends to try the buffet that is said to be economical and a veritable feast, going by other reviews...
Ambience - excellent! Great layout, seating, lights, decor, music, dance presentation, tableware, etc. Would love to enjoy the sunshine on the terrace upstairs next time.
Location and parking - very good!
Service (from the reception to our waiter) - pathetic. More than half of our waiter's work was done by other folk - other waiters and 2 of the restaurant owners who were kind enough to personally clean our table, help bag our boxes, and personally enquire about our dining experience. And btw, it was a long wait before it was noticed that we needed attention. Happened throughout the meal. Our waiter appeared to be stressed, although the restaurant was clearly not crowded, and he was sullen throughout...except when presenting the bill. As for the girls at the reception...lousy service. I repeatedly had mentioned that we were celebrating my husband's birthday while reserving the table and upon arrival. None of the 'special touches' she had mentioned were executed during our dinner. Please train your staff.
Lastly, the belly dancing. It would help to have a dedicated performance space on both levels perhaps, for proper appreciation of the artistes.
Overall, the company I enjoyed - my dear family - made dining at Casablanca a happy experience. Also, the kind attention of the discerning restaurant owners saved the day. We will return, but only for...
Read moreOne of the worst experience I've ever had here which is pretty sad because I enjoy Casablanca. I'm not sure if I'll be back for quite some time.
I had met my friends there on a Saturday night which surprisingly it wasn't that busy. They made a reservation for 930pm and weren't seated until just before I arrived. My friends told me when they got there at 930 for their reservation Casablanca didn't have a table ready. When I arrived around 1015pm I had asked my friends where the waitress was at. They stated they didn't see her since they were seated. I decided to wait about 10 minutes or so and finally asked another waitress to find our waitress. That was kind of pointless as nothing happen. Another 10 minutes go by and I finally get up and say something to one of the hosts.
By the time our waitress had finally arrived at our table to take our 1st order my friends had already been sitting there for nearly an hour. We sat and watched other tables being turned pretty quickly at that point. When our waitress never came back again one of my friends finally had enough and went back to one of the hosts to request another waitress. I had also asked to speak to a manager at this point but to my surprise a manager never came around.
We just wanted to have a good time and we ended up sitting there until about 1am. I will say the 2nd waitress that finally came over to help us was pretty good. She was kinda and professional. She kept coming back to ask us if we needed anything else about every 20ish minutes. I'm not really sure what the 1st waitress problem was but we never saw her again after we requested a different waitress. I was extremely disappointed as we come here quite often but after this experience, my friends and I won't be going back for...
Read moreGenerally a good place. We've been there three times in the past couple years. The first time was flawless, thanks to service manager Adam. Food and service were excellent. The second time, food was good but service was indifferent. The last time, the food was good, but not quite as tasty as I remember it to have been on previous occasions (different chef?) The waitress was charming and very personable. The timing of the courses was good. Table service was, however, amateurish. A combination of appetizers to be shared by two guests was brought to the table without serving silverware, leading guests to dig directly into the shared dish with their own forks; no extra plates were given, so the guests resorted to using instead saucers that had come with with soup cups earlier. Empty plates and dishes were picked up late (well after following courses were served), or not at all. Wine was served without an opportunity to taste it first. This normally is customary in most places when ordering a full bottle (it had been offered on previous occasions at Casablanca). A dessert was served unprompted (complete with sparkler, since the occasion was for a birthday), which was a nice touch, but the dessert menu was neither offered at any point, nor were empty entree plates picked up, ever. The wine (though excellent) was priced at $30 although it can be found at retail under $10. It turned out the bottle was subject to a 50% discount, so the end price was reasonable -- it's just an amusing anecdote. Though we do like Casablanca, I think a service supervisor should be present to oversee details and staff training. These are details, but they do take away from the overall satisfaction if left...
