Shi Chai Hookah Lounge — Restaurant in Milwaukee

Used to go here multiple times a week even. Love the atmosphere, very relaxing and the service and people running Shi Chai are very nice, serviceable and just fun to have a conversation with. Also their customers tend to be all very nice chill people. The hookah is great but going so much gets a little pricey and with a friends hookah being left at my apartment there is not much reason to go out and spend the extra dough. Miss this place though and I highly recommend it, just a fun place to hang and chill with your friends. The food isn't much, the nachos are good but simple and the pizza looks store bought but everything is cooked well and is a decent compliment to the hookah. I love the smoothies though got to get one of those if you go, they're amazing!

Updated 2/5/14: Lost a star for me last night. Hadn't been there in a while but the service was very poor from what I had experienced in the past. The wait staff just stared at us for 10 minutes while we are no longer looking at the menus before checking in on us to put our order in. Seems like the place is going through renovations as well. Staff seemed very un-enthused to be there which wasn't the case...

The service was literally TERRIBLE. From one server to another, I am more than understanding and patient where it is due. My friend and I came in just to grab a bite to eat. The food was really good, but slow to come out. There were two other tables, just smoking, and four employees. After placing our menus closed on the table, and making eye contact numerous times, our server came over a couple minutes later. Food came out, we ate, the server didn't check on us once. Our server was at the booth behind us where the other three employees were sitting and chatting. With our dishes empty and thumbs twiddling in our laps, we glanced back several times hoping she would get the hint. Nearly ten minutes passed before she came with the bill. Don't worry about tipping here because they automatically figure in 15%, without stating it on the menu or anywhere in the resturant! I was planning on leaving a tip anyway, but after our experience it was a slap in the face. I don't know how it is for guests that choose to smoke, but the dining aspect is highly inadequate. I dont want to write a review to trash this place because they do have great prices for coals and hookah. i want to like this place but the owner Saif (or who ever) is a jerk to myself and other friends that have patronized this establishment. he has never been helpful and will go out of his way to avoid me and others when buying flavors. at times have been blatantly rude stating "can you please hurry up and decide" or "i don't know your taste so i cant help you pick" in very nasty tones. even while questioning flavor that im about to buy!! i received a bad hookah one night, the smoke was very harsh after 10min of smoking and not knowing much about hookah at the time he refused to fix it without charging me full price for another???! this may not be everyone's experience with this guy but i wouldn't write this review if this wasn't behavior i observed him doing not just to me but others that im friends with and associate with. good smoothies but as far as food goes its sub par at best. the decor is nice and there are other workers that are very friendly & helpful but im a little turned off...
