RESTAURANT REVIEW: After a long but rewarding day, I needed some excellent Tex-Mex food. So where did I go? Tres Hermanos Restaurant located at 1332 W Lincoln Ave., on Milwaukee, Wisconsin's southside.
While I have eaten there numerous times, I have kept this secret to myself until now.
I walked in and was immediately welcomed with a big smile from the proprietor Ramon Orozco . I ordered a drink from their extensive bar and greeted some acquaintances before I proceeded to the dining room. I ordered one of their signature dishes, the "Tampiquena" ($19) and as usual, they knocked it out of the park. The dish includes a generous cut of grilled skirt steak, a cheese enchilada (I asked for onion to be added to mine), refried beans and Mexican rice. I justified my indulgence by reminding myself that it comes with a small serving of chopped lettuce with sliced tomatoes. It also comes with an order of corn or flour tortillas. I chose the corn.
As I still had another event to attend, I asked the server if they could rush my order. In most restaurants this would mean my meal would either be undercooked, or utilize meat and/or other items previously prepared. Not the case at Tres Hermanos.
The skirt steak was juicy and tender and seasoned to perfection. Too many restaurants over-season their meat to make up for cheaper cuts. The rice and beans were fresh and flavorful. No frozen or pre-packaged flavorless food here. And my enchilada was fresh with a perfectly flavored, authentic sauce.
Even though I was rushed, I could not help but finish the entire plate as each taste was a personal reward for the days efforts.
The environment is charming and decorated with authentic items and momentos brought back from Mexico by Ramon. Tres Hermanos offers both indoor and outdoor seating.
Iff you are looking for a lively environment to enjoy drinks and appetizers with friends, or if you are looking to enjoy a delicious meal, Tres Hermanos should be at or near the top...
Read moreThis restaurant is my new Mexican dig, and I am glad I was introduced to it because when it comes to Mexican restaurants, there are so many in the Milwaukee area that I'm at a loss at where to start. I'm truly grateful to my coworker for bringing me there.
The service is very fast despite the large menu, and the servers have always been very friendly and welcoming whenever I visited. I've ordered about a quarter of the entire menu so far and every entry has been a hit - packed with flavor and in portions equivalent to their prices, which is on the higher side though that is mainly due to the unfortunate inflation situation plaguing the country therefore something they are not truly at fault for. But to further emphasize on the portions, the jumbo-sized burritos are aren't filled with carb fillers (rice and bean) but rather very generous amounts of meat, ensuring you're getting your money's worth. Also, this is not your typical westernized Mexican dig, they have entrees more catered towards true Mexican cuisine.
Overall, I continue to be excited returning to this restaurant to further carry on my exploration of their menu. But if you need additional persuasion, know that the (very friendly) owner is a liquor connoisseur and if you ask him he will be more than glad to proudly pull out his rarer collection for you. I don't think I've had smoother tequila anywhere else, and I hope you'll all give this...
Read moreThis was the first time my family and I came here after seeing some good reviews, so we decided to drive up from Caledonia to try it out. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars, as the food was delicious and authentic, however the service was horrible. First of all, our server wanted to seat us right next to a table of about 6 young adults who were having some fun conversation, while the entire dining area was empty, so I suggested a different spot, not knowing it was next to a door that patrons can use, not to mention it was below zero out (yes, we were that hungry to go out). Once we noticed it my husband asked if we can move and she rudely said in Spanish, “por eso te dije” meaning “that’s why I told you” which she never did. How were we to know people were using that door until someone exited? Our server was inattentive. She came to our table to take our order, bring our drinks and food out. That was it. We mentioned that we needed refills, but she forgot. Not sure if they were short staffed, but she did pay much attention to the table next to us. She even charged us for a couple of their margaritas! Where are the 3 hermanos when you need them? Hope they get...
