Iāve now had Champs two times, and Iām officially glad that they are the closest pizza place to my house. I was hesitant to try because A: I hadnāt liked the place that was there before and felt dubious that this would be any better (admittedly unfair of me) and B: didnāt think the pizza looked all that good in pictures (that looks like a lot of basically raw onion to meā¦š³). HOWEVER. They sponsored our elementary schoolās end of year event by giving the PTO a discount on pizza to serve to everyone. Naturally, I had some that night, and was very pleasantly surprised. Itās worth mentioning that I have only tried the cheese pizza and the pepperoni so far, but the undeniably delicious part of the pizza is the CRUST. Dang, it is so good. That perfect bit of chew, if you know what I mean? Lots of flavor. The sign on their store says āour dough makes the differenceā and I think thatās real. Itās really, really good. Today, my kid and I shared the lunch special - a medium one topping pizza and a 20oz soda for $9.99 - a screaming deal. The only thing I wish had been better was communication about my order. Meaning, I wish their online ordering system had a few more features. I placed the order and it said pick up time was 25 minutes. I drove straight to the place, as we were out and about and wanted to pick up lunch before going to the park. I was there within 3 minutes of placing my order, and just parked in the shade and waited. There was never any text or email ir anything telling me my order was ready. After 25 minutes, I went in, and as soon as I did, I could tell I should have gone in sooner. The one employee at lunch hour was out front of the building having a smoke break (fine). He followed me in and asked if I was Emily, and grabbed my order. Based on temperature, and the fact that heād been chilling out front, it had clearly been done for a while already. Probably 5-10 minutes. It isnāt a huge deal - next time Iāll just inquire sooner - but it would be nice to have received a notification of some kind. I almost gave a 4 star review, just because there is room to improve here, but it really is only like a 4 1/2 star situation, so I opted for the 5 star to help their rating and encourage others to try it. I do genuinely hope this pizza place makes it. I have yet to order delivery, so I canāt speak to that process yet. Iāll update my review if anything...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis has to be the worst food spot in Portland. The only reason why i even tried them again was the $10 promo.
I ordered from them once, they didnāt have the item and cancelled the order. Second time, the food was substituted incorrectly. I donāt know why these places have the audacity to substitute stuff for less than what youāve paid for, considering that youāre already losing value if you get something you didnāt want. If youāre out of something, you have to either fix your menu or actually compensate someone with more than what they paid.
I understand that delivery drivers couldnāt bother less, but what could possibly stop you from giving a paper bag? Even if you assume that the delivery person was picking up food for himself, the tray was soaking wet, why not give him a paper bag?
The other day, they called me to notify that they canāt cancel the order. Three or four drivers went to their store to be told to leave after theyād spend the money on gas getting there because the store knowingly wouldnāt cancel it. I canāt cancel the orders on my end because these delivery apps donāt care why youāre canceling. If the order was accepted, canceling it causes a hit to refund records. Then, when something like today happens, they wonāt refund no matter what is the reason.
Just what I know: they purposefully do not cancel orders if they canāt fulfill them, they donāt bother updating the menu until after you order, they canāt figure out their packaging. You know that the food is going to be delivered the same way you hand it over (or worse), and you canāt give...

They comped us with credit towards another pizza plus, and we look forward to trying again. Have to say I was at the point I no longer had any expectations but then we got emails from them. Soā¦. We shall try again and see! Thanks, Champ!
ORIGINAL POST (3 stars): We had a total bummer of a delivery experience ordering from the King location in Milwaukie, OR. Husband was excited to try it because we got a coupon in the mail for Free breadsticks when you order a Large pizza. He went online to order, but the code didn't work. Still ordered a large pizza anyway, at 6:06 pm, because we wanted to give it a try, not having had Champ pizza before.
What happened? We didn't get it until almost 8:30 pm! And there was no communication beforehand (until very close to the actual delivery time) to let us know to expect this. The website said we could expect it to take up to 90 minutes normally.
I understand a shop can get busy, but our order for a single large pizza took almost 2 and a half hours, the discount code failed, and there was no communication to let us know the delivery would take so long. On the up side, my husband thought the pizza itself tasted quite good! But we both felt that 2.5 hours wait is...
