City Afrique Restaurant — Restaurant in Minneapolis

Customer service is HORRIBLE! We ordered our food over the phone and inform them of a food allergy and they let me know that they wouldn’t use the food product that I’m allergic to. COOL. Right? NO! As we are waiting for our food it is taking forever! As if they’re making it from scratch of something. We went back and forth into the restaurant to see how much longer and NOBODY came to check with us even when we requested for help. (And even called AGAIN) I decided to go back to the car and wait what felt like another 5-10 minutes I went back in to see why on gods green earth was going on and where our food was a lady came out kinda hostile (I never even got a word out yet) saying to me that she doesn’t know what order I’m talking about all because I mentioned a food allergy. Like what? Even though she made it clear that they do not use that product unless it was requested and that they only use it with certain foods and not on or in what I ordered. Mind you I ordered over the phone 35 minutes before and after waiting literally 40 something odd minutes we left. Atp I’m sure they didn’t even take our order or make our food for whatever weird reason.! I don’t want to eat from anyone that is so unprofessional and rude. And where you order from at this restaurant would make anyone feel claustrophobic. People are insane.! First encounter and...

Nobody knows how to run the register. They can’t take cards over the phone. In person you aren’t welcomed but barked at “ what do you want to order?” After taking the order “front desk” ranging from age 10 to 64 will then proceed to eat their food or text or just walk away to the back of the house leaving you standing at the front. You are left confused as to where to sit when ordering takeout.

Second the restaurant has no direction in decor and needs a major renovation. Looks like it breaks all sanitary codes. Dirty tables are visible and no actual waiters ( more like one person cooking in the back and whomever can help the lady out that day comes along with her)

Their website is more professional And makes you wonder who they paid to create it!

As for the food it’s alright The cassava leaf is very oily with no spice apart from the little pepper sauce they give you. The food is plenty and isnt too bad however the customer service never improves and now I feel compelled to Sum up my experience as a whole.

So not bring a date to this place . Do not expect good customer service. It is ran like street food in Africa. Just try to order wait in your car and take your good home!!! Even the location is a problem... their delivery service is also a joke because “the guy” who drives is never there.

So... I have visited this place twice within the last couple of months. This last time I went I thought I would call and inquire if there was a change in management. Because when I was there about 2 weeks ago I ordered a large collard greens and all of the stewed meat inside of if was super tough! I gave them another chance and let a worker know about my experience with the meat with my other visit. I was assured with this new order the stew meat would be up to par. But nope... the meat was like fried jerky. Since COVID the cooking here has gone downhill and I will not waste another dollar. I have patronized this place several times before writing this review with bad results and thought I would give the the benefit of a doubt. But I will not be returning to waste another hard earned dollar on...
