Mingni's Food Adventure - Ramen Kazama

I visited this restaurant last week (3/29/19). This was honestly the best ramen I've had here in MN thus far. It's nice and simple yet so full of flavor, especially that broth. Wow! I just went with the simple and classic shoyu ramen and it blew my mind and all other competition out of the water. Everywhere else taste like they're trying too hard but this place has that full-body taste that reminds you of something that was made at home by okaa-san. I actually almost finished the broth, it was THAT good. I noticed that a few other reviews say that there isn't enough food in the bowl, but they forget that portion sizes are different for regular American fare. I personally thought this bowl was more than filling enough for me and my fiance. I'm planning on going to Japan later this year, so I know that I will be experiencing even more when I'm there, but I'm so glad we have this place here in MN that I can go to. I just wish it was easier for me to get to (I live in the south suburbs), but it's so worth the trip AND the price! I'll attach a photo of what I had. (Also, I made a chopstick rest from the chopstick wrapper. Handy little thing you can make while waiting for your food and to keep your chopsticks out of your bowl and off the table.)

A wonderfully cozy ramen shop. Fiancé and I ended stopping to try something new on a chilly Sunday evening. We chose to sit at the counter seats so we would also have the window view. The cashier recommended #3, the Karimiso Ramen as it was one of the most popular and it was very satisfying. A rich broth with a ton of umami. It wasn’t as spicy as I expected and that’s a good thing. The spicy pork was savory and tasty. The Torisho ramen may look underwhelming compared to the popping colors of the other ramen, but it was delightful. The broth tasted crisp and clean and for a chicken broth that usually pails in comparison to pork or beef broths, it held its own. We also ordered the chicken karage. The taste of the skin reminded me of shrimp chips, if you know, you know, and was a nice addition. The thing I wished was different would be the size of the karage pieces. Felt that it was a little too large to bite into as the chicken was molten hot and if it was cut into smaller chunks, it would save from the mouth burns. A splash of fresh lemon juice would’ve been nice on the karage too. Overall a really nice spot to get some ramen. Would highly recommend.

I was at Ramen Kazama 9/6/25. There was this rude customer berating the workers because his he had to wait for his food for 15 minutes. The manager was very nice to him and even gave him a free glass of sake and explained that they were training in a new person. He also explained that the customer (whose name I found out is Tanner Langheinrich from his lame review complaining about the service) ordered one of his soups as a to go order and the new guy placed the bag in the "to go section", which i assume is up at the counter. Tanner was rude to the manager and kept saying he wanted his $20 tip back. The manager in question was as nice as i've ever seen anyone who is handling someone so disrespectful. I've been coming into Ramen Kazama for nearly nine years, almost as long as its been open. These workers are treated like garbage by the customers and I've seen it time and time again and finally had to say something. The manager tried his best to accomodate this rude jerk, but even still Tanner still had to come online and bash the workers as if they had done something wrong. They didn't. The food wasn't even that late. Tanner yelled very loudly at the kitchen that he had been waiting for fifteen minutes. Fifteen minutes?! Are you kidding me? It was busy as hell. 15 minutes is nothing in a busy restaurant. And go look at Tanner's other reviews, it's all 1 star complaints that really make him look like a loser. I hope Kazama sees this and gives those workers a raise, they put up with so much garbage, and then get lied on when they are as nice as can be. Tanner Langheinrich should be ashamed of himself. Such a small mean person to be rude to kitchen workers for no reason. shame on you Tanner. You need to be a better person. The food was amazing as always. Kazama makes the best ramen in the city and has some of the best employees i've ever...

I’ve only been to this location one other time years ago. I usually frequent the SE location since it was right around the corner from where I Used to live . However, I have since moved and the Nicollet location is more convenient. I’ve been raving to my coworker about ramen Kazama for months. So we finally had the chance to check it out . When we arrived there was literally no other customers anywhere to be seen. The server was clearing off a table outside, she saw us walk in ... didn’t say anything. No greeting, no anything. We walked In looked at the menu I was telling him About how the menu worked. She walked in shortly after that. Said she had to finished cleaning and then she could seat us . Again, no greeting. NO ONE else inside dining or waiting what so ever . Showed no general interest in at least seating us. There was literally one dirty table outside. I don’t mean to sound like a cliche “Service industry peep”. I know what it’s like getting stuck in the weeds. We were the only customers in the building . She proceeded to take her time cleaning off already clean tables outside. There was no help “yourself with a water” or “can I grab you a drink while I finish up?” After 5 More mins of waiting for her to clean off already clean tables we left and drove out to the Como location where the experience was like night and day. As we walked to the car she let out a guilt trip “have a good day” as if that made anything any better . While we were at the como location they were very Attentive and accommodating. The reason for the 3 star rating is because of the service my friend and I received . Does not reflect the amazing food you serve up. I do not like giving bad reviews at all I I do feel like it can be a good way to provide better service . The karamiso was AMAZING btw. Thank you...

Went to Ramen Kazama with my wife for the first time this past Friday night. The place was very packed at about 7pm. The ordering line was very long. Once you do get your food ordered, you have to wait some more to get seated... Once you get seated, you will wait at least another 20 min. to get your ramen. Therefore, from entering the restaurant to getting our food, we waited about 65 minutes. We finished our food in about 20 minutes...

Environment: I believe that the owners rushed this one. The place looks like a mini version of a run-down college cafeteria. Most tables are different. The one we had was rocky. All the bowls are different too, so are the spoons. For a new restaurant, I would expect the owners to invest in its own bowls and spoons. Very disappointed.

Food: On a Friday night at 7 pm, 2 out of the 5 ramen were sold out?!?! Unbelievable. Also do not expect to get the beer you want either. Only 1 out of the 3 beer selections was available. When the ramen arrived, it came in a tiny little bowl ($12.50). It had half an egg, two tiny pieces of meat, noodles and that is about it. The broth tasted fine, but the portion was "ugly". My wife ordered the rice bowl. It had zero flavor. :( I should have taken a picture of the extra 2 slices of pork belly that we ordered ($2.50). They were so tiny...

Price: Extremely overpriced for what you get. The environment doesn't help either. Oh, and please do not use the bathroom. You won't want to use it...

Verdict: 2 out of 5. Take your money and spend it elsewhere. If you are looking for better portion size and price, go to United Noodle. If you are looking for a better atmosphere and food taste,...
