I’ve had mixed experiences with Twisted Hare.
On the one hand, I received a wonderful cut from Claudia about a year ago. I prefer an A-line cut, which I know can be tricky with my hair. (My hair type is mostly 3B with a little 3C.) I showed a reference photo from a past cut, requested it to be about an inch shorter than the reference, and Claudia knocked it out of the park. Perfectly true to what I wanted.
More recently, I decided to get my regular cut and also add in a fun color. In hindsight, maybe I should have done these two services separately. Just over a month ago, I went to Lori to get the cut and teal highlights. When I booked my appointment, I specified that I was thinking either teal or pink but hadn’t decided. When I arrived at the salon, I was informed they didn’t have teal and only had pink, purple, or dark blue. I decided dark blue, which was fine albeit a little disappointing. I shared the same reference photo I showed Claudia and mentioned I like my hair cut A-line with it shorter in the back & longer in the front. She mentioned that from the photos, it all looked the same length but agreed to do the A-line. For highlights, she did bleach foils. Once the highlighted sections were already bleached, she said the only way to get the highlights dyed blue was to dye my entire head. Had I known this is what needed to happen prior to parts being bleached, I wouldn’t have gone through with it. On the reference photos I showed for how I wanted the highlights to look, the person still had their normal hair color. I went along with it anyway, too far in to back out. It looked fine when done, but my regular hair was so much darker than I wanted. Lori had mentioned it should wash out and turn back to my normal color. After 2 days, I noticed parts of my natural hair that had been dyed were looking greenish (likely because my virgin hair was a yellow-y brown.) A bit over a month later, the green is finally fading and brown is finally starting to show through again. Friends and family have since told me that this was definitely not the only way to dye the highlights blue, but picking out the individual bleached sections would have just taken more time. (I would have been fine with that.) In the future, I’ll be more vocal when I don’t think something is quite right, as that part is on me. That being said, I likely won’t return here for a color.
Edit: it’s now almost two years later and there are still mucky green bits in my hair. I’ve used color remover, dyed over it, and cut most of my hair off to get rid of the...
Read moreI wanted to love this salon. Like a lot. I am the lone curly girl in my family so I’ve been left to figure things out for myself most of my life. That being said, I highly valued the tips and information this salon was able to provide. They obviously know their stuff, and i took home a lot of new practices to get my hair looking how i want. The haircut itself is where I felt things fell short. I’ve seen multiple great reviews about Julia, and she is categorized as a senior stylist on their site, so I booked my appointment and got super pumped. I showed up to the salon 10 minutes before my appointment. Julia was 15 minutes late to start with my appointment, pretty reasonable considering it was the end of the day for them. I told her I wanted a style new, funky, and different, and showed her a picture of a cut i liked to which she said “oh you don’t want THAT though, do you?” I thought it was weird that she would say something like that, but I asked what she would do differently. She basically told me she liked my hair how it was and that she would add some dramatic layers like in the photo. Silly me, not being persistent about what I was asking for, I ended up with a haircut exactly like what I came in with, but a couple inches shorter. I figured I’d give it a chance and see if it looked any better after I styled it myself. When I wasn’t satisfied, I called to talk to the owner so she could at least talk to Julia about it. I was surprised to hear that she was willing to fix it herself at no charge, and even more surprised later to find that she had booked my appointment after hours so that she could give me her full attention. I was really impressed with the way Teresa handled things, and she gave me a better haircut, I just still feel like the cut missed the mark, even after an extra hour of tweaking. After all of that, this is not a bad salon by any means, I would say just not the salon for me. I was happy I went and talked to them and experienced a dry cut for the first time, but I don’t think I would pay that much to...
Read moreI woke up on Mother’s Day and areas on my blue pillow and sheets cost $700 are reddish purple- dye was not properly rinsed from my hair. This is not a place for Black hair. Biracial hair yes and so on. Black hair no. I just needed a simple color and for greys that frame my face to be covered brown and I was given bright red/purple hair and they tried to convince me the color was brown. “I think you are seeing it in the wrong light” I wish I could put a pic here for all to see my red/purple hair. My kids and friends “are you punk rock now?” “You look like Justine sky the girls with the purple hair” I cried. The stylists and owner made me feel like a freak having 2 people help with my hair and Teresa the owner made it a negative experience by constantly checking on the stylist heather indicating the stylist was incompetent. I know the proper way to do and products for my hair and they disregarded that. ( so hard to find a decent place in Minneapolis for black hair)I asked for a wet brush so I could help with my hair and there was none in the salon. Heather the stylist handled my hair as if she didn’t want to touch it/was intimidated by it and barely rinsed the dye. Teresa insisted the heather use a particular conditioner (which made my hair hard and dry) and not the one I know works and I asked for. The stylist 8-10 times took approx 20 strands of hair and snipped maybe 1 cm of hair- she seem intimidated the whole time doing my hair barely scrubbed my hair. At the end Teresa charged me $102 and said “I saw her give you a full haircut” even as the stylist denied she gave me a cut. When I said I would come back for a fix “good you get to come back she gets to experiment with you.” With a smile. I paid $76 for the clown color feeling used and defeated and disrespected. I gave heather a $6 tip she should have received none and I should not have had to pay $76 for something I did not receive. I can tell Teresa is all about the $ and not quality service. If I could give -0...
