We have always driven past this location along highway 694. We always see it and say to each other, "We should go there" but we keep driving. One day, we decided that this was the day we went to the biggest buffet in Minnesota. The food selection was large and plentiful. There was the typical buffet fare: rice, noodles, beef, chicken, and fish. Then there was the additional things that make this buffet great, like build your own Pho and Mongolian grill. They had a wide selection of sushi. The Pho table was very quick. However, the Mongolian grill took a long time and they messed up an order of a woman who was waiting a long time. The sushi was of medium quality. Initially, the table we were seated at had a wobbly leg so every time my husband tried to eat, the table would slosh my food towards me and vice versa! Eventually, we just moved to an open table and alerted the waitress. They could have been quicker about filling up my soda. Overall, it was great and we will return.

08/13/2024 Sumo had been closed for some time for remodeling, to my eye not much has changed or been updated. There is now though Sushi. To me what makes a buffet great and recommendable is always, at ALL times have FRESH tasty food. With that being said, I was at all pleased. Everything had lost it's freshness. Not only was the flavor not there, clearly the eye could see it all had been there far too long. Again what makes a buffet desirable and recommendable is that their food is "ALWAYS" fresh and delicious. I've been here a good number of times and seems as if it is only gets less desirable. I will not be recommending this establishment because of this disappointment. I've held excitement of going there, now I won't be returning. Sadly this review, this visit, their changes took what was before very pleasant and desirable, 180° . I don't like making reviews like this. But it is my experience from over 8+ years. 😶

First time I went I hated it

the plates are dirty and have spots on them The noodles are mushy and overcooked and the brand of the noodles are of poor quality. the raw shrimp is tiny- The first time I was disgusted my spots on the plates that was the instant disgusting and turn-off

My family wanted to go again lately and I told them i hate that place its dirty and the food is crap but the asked me to come again and here was the second time.

plates still dirty and have spots Did not even bother to try and of the trash noodles or cooked shrimp I decided instead to try the so called fresh grill, okay I put some noodles that is already cooked and looks over cooked and mushy but not seasoned- you are to add your own spices and have the guy toss it for you, so I add my noodles and shrimp and try to season it with the spices shrimp needs lemon to be cooked with but that's not a big deal the issue was the guy who did it for me was not nice to me, he kept my dish last for some reason and left briefly to show a man where the rice was and I saw him eating from a used plate on his way back which was really a turn off and disgusting, but I let that pass even and when he comes back my noodles has already overcooked either that or they were out too long on the buffet table because they were stail or gross so it ruined my mood from the onset.

I try again and see if we can get it right the second time I added a lot of spice to give it taste and the man who grills it left mine last for some reason and served others quickly I felt as though he did it on purpose and it was BLACK - part of the reason might be my fault since adding hot spices can burn food quickly but if he tossed it instead of just leaving it and serving others it would not have burned!

I give it one last try and this time i try the chicken the raw chicken is NOT at a stable cool temp its becoming gooey that means the cooling rack is not cold enough which is a health hazard!!! I still decided to try it hoping he would cook it well so there would be no health risks and I spice it up nicely and the shrimp as well and again the man at the grill seemed to have something against me he left me last and was very kind to everyone else but with me very rude and when he gave me my plate the second time and third time no kindness at all and gave it to me harshly, what was really insulting was when he came to my chicken he threw it on the grill and made jokes in spanish every-time it was my turn and was not friendly. I server lady who is white lady was not friendly either and latter we had a asian server and she was also not friendly, some are very nice this one not so much she kept waiting for us and I only went 3 times and my plate was not full at all I looked at other people plate it was full to the max so I felt they treated me and my friend not so nice and she kept standing and she said the few shrimps left they were like five or so that was left over from my friend she said you cant throw away it will counter as dinner or something so i was forced to have my friend put his left over cold shrimp om my plate and that happened twice since they charge you if you throw away food.

The restaurant business is extremely hard and stressful and I worked in it as a food server and griller and cashier and cook and I know how hard and stressful it is but I was kind and I accept a descent experience when I pay more then most other buffets charge.

I would not recommend this place unless they get themselves together.

What needs to be done: clean the plates properly hire friendly waiters fire the guy who is on the grill or tell him to get his act together get better quality noodles get better bigger shrimp tell waiters not to expect a tip and stand waiting for one, I mean your already getting paid and your food sucks why should I tip?

Sorry for being so harsh but this...

Hadn't eaten all day and so I was starving by the time I got off work at 530PM. My co worker recommended this buffet and so we both went and wow I was blown away by their variety of both American and Asian dishes. Loved it all. The guy working by the grill was so funny, showing me all his grilling tricks. He definitely needs a raise.

What I didn't enjoy was our waitress. We sat at booth F6, don't know that waitress's name but short bangs, 5'3ish. We finished eating around 7:30pm and so me and my co worker were just chatting about life, work, etc. The waitress brought us our fortune cookies, and I know when they do that they know we are close to being done and are about to leave. My coworker and I continued talking till after 8ish, and the whole time we noticed the waitress would stand by the table about a few yards from us and lean against it and make really big 'sighs'. We felt like she was waiting for us to leave and was getting impatient. It certainly wasn't busy at all, so it wasn't like other people were waiting on our booth. My coworker and I were talking still and then she interrupted us from where she was standing and said, THANK YOU. I looked at her and she was staring right at us, as if she was really telling us - okay guys, cmon, go home. My coworker got irritated and so did I. This waitress was literally standing two tables away from our booth just looking and waiting for us to leave, we were so uncomfortable. Another one of the waitress walked by and they were talking and I heard her say, "these two are done eating but they won't leave. I dont understand why". Okay, I took mandarin in school for 8 years, i totally understood what she said to the other waitress. After hearing that I just decided to keep talking and make her wait longer. We continued talking still and then a few minutes later, the waitress did a big SIGH, again and walked over to our booth and said, CAN I GET NAPKIN BOX PLEASE, and pointed to the napkins on our table. I looked at it and it wasn't even empty, it was still pretty full. But I said sure, and gave it to her and she opened the top and forcefully stuffed more napkins in RIGHT IN FRONT of me and my coworker, interrupted us while we were in a middle of a conversation. I've never seen a waitress or waiter clean and refill items while we, the customers, were still there.

We eventually left and I still left her a good tip, but me coworker and I felt so uncomfortable with the vibe we were getting from our waitress.

But again, the food was bomb. Will be back to talk...

First I would like to say that my family and I frequent this restaurant and is our go to place to bring family friends. However this evening I brought my family of 5 to eat about 7:30 pm and after eating, our server, brought the bill and stood at the table until I signed. I asked her to wait to take the signed credit card receipt until I returned from the restroom so I could calculate the tip into the total. When I returned I decided I was going to leave a cash tip Instead of paying the tip with my card so I wrote 0.00 on the tip line and proceed to finish my drink. The waitress walked over from the empty table behind us where she was waiting and looked at the receipt. She told me I had to pay a tip of at least the 12% SUGGESTED amount. She then looked over to my eldest daughter and said "are you paying me a cash tip?". I was furious that my server even suggested that a tip was not an option and looked to my children for the tip after I just paid over $70. I have NEVER ate in a restaurant and not tipped my server even in a restaurant that was not full service. As my server the stood at the empty table behind us and proceeded to comment to another worker that I did not put a tip on the receipt, I got up and went to the front desk to speak to the manager and my server soon followed behind me. After speaking to the manager she supported the server saying that customers sometimes write a tip but don't sign. I explained that I signed but wrote 0.00 for the tip because I was going to pay the tip in cash (which as a I have worked as a waitress in the past know that tips are not always received). In the end I ended up leaving very upset and left a much smaller tip then what I originally was going to give her (even though she only brought me a lemonade). Unfortunately, this type of service has made it so my family and friends will never return. Upset family of 5 and former long...
