I had a very mixed experience here. I grew up going to Anton's. However, as I have grown up, and traveled, and been to many more places, Anton's doesn't stack up. But, for St Cloud, they still are good. We had reservations, we chose to sit outside. Beware, if you sit outside, there are pesty geese and there is a slight smell too. However, that did not bother me at all. I enjoyed interacting with the feathery beggars. But not all will enjoy it. I ordered the steak medium rare and it came looking like a mini football. It was very rare. They replaced my meal, and I got the Cajun pasta instead and it was yummy! However I confirmed with them that the dish did not have onions... and the description said that it had red peppers, and my dish came out with no red peppers, and I don't know if that was a misunderstanding or just them not following the menu. My husband had the roasted duck, and I tasted it and it was very good. We ordered two desserts... and one was just average and one was really good (the chocolate pie). I always enjoy the popovers at Anton's but recently I've had popovers at other establishments that I like better. My husband ordered a scotch and I took a sip of it and it was a very good scotch. I had to Paloma and it was enjoyable. I probably won't go back as it doesn't meet my expectations for fine dining, but for the area I do think that it is still fine dining.

Expected better quality for the price point. Was looking for local charm over the usual chain restaurant offerings but found Anton's more a time capsule than a local treat. We will not be returning. Should have left when seated because the booth seat was in disrepair, the table was crooked, a knife and wrapper were wedged between the table and wall as pictured. The bacon wrapped tenderloin was served luke-warm with the bacon being soggy and under cooked. For a $29 6oz tenderloin I expected better quality than Bonanza. The mashed sweet potato; however, was delicious and our server was polite and attentive. Just felt like it is the kind of place where they wouldn't understand my concerns.

My friend from St Joseph brought me here during a recent visit and I loved it! It was a little chilly to sit outside with views of the river, but I loved the warmth and woodsy decor of the dining room. There is a full bar, a good wine list, and a nice selection of craft beers on tap. Fresh hot popovers with honey butter (oh yum!) were brought by our friendly and helpful server. My friend got the glazed salmon and I opted for the pork ribs — both were delicious! If there had been room for dessert, I’d have gone for the lava cake; that’ll be next time!

Been to Anton's several times over the years. Most of my experiences have been above average, the stuffed shrimp is amazing and the popovers are a deliciously unique touch to a good meal. Last evening though my wife and I ate an early dinner there and it was a pretty poor experience. She ordered a side salad with her meal and there was a very long, white hair wrapped up in the lettuce. Sent it back and got a replacement, no big deal made. I then recieved my meal of lobster mac and cheese and it was going well until I got a bit of a taste of bad seafood. I wrote it off as maybe just an overly pungent chunk of lobster meat when I first sensed it and kept eating, it wasnt until I had a bite that made my stomach queasy that i was certain there was at least one piece of lobster meat in the dish that had spoiled but it wasn't enough to ruin most of the dish. I am the last person in the world to waste good food, send food back or ask for freebies and after the hair issue I was especially aware of the possibility of being suspected of grifting so basically I just tried to best identify the bad part and ate the rest. I mentioned it to the waitress when I was done and her response was nothing more than "I'll mention it to the chefs".

Both problems I feel are worthy of at minimum a very clear apology, especially seeing there's no questioning a foot long hair tossed into the heart of a salad. Standing alone, either of the two issues I would think would be a serious enough to warrant at minimum a comped 2$ side salad and maybe our two non-alcoholic drinks. Combined I'm surprised there wasn't as offer to comp a good portion of the meal, if not even the entire thing.

The fact that nothing was even mentioned when it came time for a 75 plus dollar ticket if nothing else gives the impression that these issues aren't taken super seriously by at least one waitress and possibly any other staff that may have been privy to the complaints we made regarding our meal.

Past history would have this review at a 4 or 5, last night it would have been a 1. I'll likely go back but I'll pay much closer attention to my...

My friends back home recommended this place , they raved about it; How disappointed we were. This place is overrated and overpriced for the quality of food one receives. Yes, the atmosphere there is cozy and the waitress was pleasant. However, The popovers were burnt and on the dry side, disgusting. The pan fried walleye was undercooked and had this disgusting breading on it, it must have been frozen then placed in the microwave, gross. “ Don’t places like Burger King and Mc Donald’s toss their frozen food in the microwave?” I would not know since I do not eat at fast food restaurants . My margarita! How can one place go wrong in so many ways; This place sure did! I think having it from a pre-made mix in one of those plastic containers might be better? I would not know since that is not a margarita. I didn’t say nothing to the guest I was with, because the one is like Gordon Ramsey of insults when it comes to food and service. I didn’t want this person to take it out on the poor waitress. The poor thing, the waitress didn’t have her tables under control, she was utterly beside herself with just us 3 and an 8 top table. We had waited patiently for over 35 minutes for our check. We just wanted our check to pay for it and be on our merry way. SideNote: acknowledgement ( not ignoring your tables ) and explaining goes so much further. Needless to say, I ended up getting extremely sick from the undercooked fish, cross contamination, and that disgusting margarita . All my plans had changed due from me getting sick from the food and margarita I had there at Anton’s . I don’t know what to do about this issue?? I am still extremely upset and bothered by how this restaurant the cooks their cook the food and trains their employees.

One awfully sick customer who is not happy...

We had reservations for a party of 28 on Saturday, May 17th. I had requested a 6:00 p.m. reservation, was told if we accepted a 7:00 p.m. dining time they would be prepared for us. Being a large group we were limited to only three entrées, a baked potato and salad. We were seated at 7:00 p.m. Our drink orders were taken and served promptly. Our entrée orders were taken and our salads served with an over baked popover!! During the next two hour wait, our waiter never returned to our tables; refill our drinks or to inform us that there was a problem. I could not find our waiter so I walked to the kitchen and requested to speak to the manager. She told us there was a backup in the kitchen and our food would be out shortly. We waited again with no one approaching our tables. Again, I requested the manager come to our dining room and explain to us, when our food would arrive? Our entrée was finally served after waiting two hours …. When the food arrived; the salmon was over cooked, the BBQ ribs were dry and the baked potato was so cold the butter would not melt. Complaints to the manager were met with ‘it’s within our parameter’ to have large groups wait two hours for their entrée!!! There were empty table in front and around our seating area. Our motorhome group has had our rallies in St. Cloud, MN for over ten years. We have been dining at many restaurants in your beautiful city and never had a bad experience until last Saturday,...
