Thank you, ShoGun, for an experience so awful that it almost ruined our family's birthday celebration. I would have forgiven this, and I would not be posting this, if only we had gotten some form of APOLOGY, or at least an explanation, but we got neither. My son wanted no present for his special day except a special sushi lunch at a nice restaurant. We should have anticipated trouble when the server never even greeted us, had a brusque attitude, and showed little interest in answering our questions about menu items. At that point we already agreed not to not leave a tip (including one in our party who is also a server in a restaurant). I had not expected it would get worse, but it did. We arrived at around 12:15 pm, and we did not get our food until 1:30 -- that's literally MORE THAN ONE HOUR of waiting for our food. In that time, every other customer that arrived -- we were the very first to be seated there -- got served. Not only that, by the time we got our orders, THREE tables had already FINISHED and left! Three people in our party got up to inquire about their progress, and not once was there explanation or apology. This is not the first time I've had to wait so long for an order, but in those times the wait was less than an hour, and the quality of the food (and an apologetic server) was enough to make the wait a distant memory. This time, even after we finished our lunch (which was pretty good), most of us were still shaking with anger and disappointment. It might have been cruel of me to write a bunch of ZERO's under "tip" when I signed the check, but at that point it was taking every ounce of my resolve to not make a public scene right there. My son was so depressed, and the drive home was deathly quiet, that it took me the rest of the afternoon to get everyone cheered back up. To be sure, we will be talking about this experience for a long, long time. Once again, if only someone, anyone, in ShoGun expressed even one ounce of remorse for this, we would have let all this go and you would not be reading about this. Disclaimers: It's possible the restaurant was having a bad day, or there was some serious problem in the background of things -- but if they had explained the situation, we would have been more patient. You should also be aware that we are a family of color, and all the other customers in the section were not -- which may or not have been a factor (and possibly good...
Read moreReally disappointing service and quality at our recent visit to shogun. I started going to hibachi at age 14 with my older brother over 14 years ago. Mikato, Japanese imperial, and Ichiban were my go to places. They are all out of business now so we go to shogun or bamboo for sake and hibachi.
Shogun has hot and cold sake on the menu but apparantly have no idea how to prepare the beverage. I ordered 2 large hot sakes and the waitress had to come back to the table to confirm what ordered. She returned a few minutes later with 2 sakes that were cold. We instantly asked for them to be reheated and the waitress said they just told her to microwave it. She brought it back and we had to send it back to be heated a third time.
This sake is $9 each and is supposed to be heated in a pot of boiling water, not microwaved. This is a menu item and the restaurant should know how to prepare it when it's ordered.
We were waiting on a 5th person at our table but were repeatedly pressured to place our order. Waitress said she would take our order and wait for our 5th. The cook came out immediately after we ordered. He arrived 10 minutes later and ordered his food to go.
The cook was a good guy but seemed tired. He barely spoke and didn't bother doing any stunts while cooking. We struck up conversation with him and tried to lighten the mood. His responses were nice and he made us some great food.
I ended up paying $60 for 3 sakes and my meal. Bummer experience overall and I don't...
Read moreThe hostess was friendly helpful and engaging however, our waitress was not forthcoming, with an attitude of discontent. As if she couldn't bother to be there, had to request utensils, soy sauce in a sushi restaurant is a new for me, when requesting a beverage menu for both alcoholic as well as non I had to make suggestions such as do you have this item or this beverage and then for her to remember whether or not their menu had said item and take her memory as word for it only for my partner to find out they did have other items that we were told they did not.
As for the food- everything was not worth the hype and for the most part barely qualified as sushi like all of the ingredients were there the integrity and quality not so much. No I was not expecting it to be like A5 territory on everything however I've had better store sushi. The sashimi was hit or miss when widely varying cuts and quality. I cannot argue that the food was not sushi it was in all accounts sushi.. like by definition of the ingredients were there.
Atmosphere - when we showed up it still smells like cleaning bleach and cleaning chemicals which does not bode very well for a food environment.
All in all don't know if it was a bad experience or wrong time but not a strong contender for being rememberable in addition seeing another review in which another customer and reviewer had issues with their wait staff makes me think it's the latter of being...
