My boyfriend and I were regulars here. We would go twice a week for months. First of all, we all wanted to sit in the booth but we were not allowed to sit in the booth unless we had four people. So even though we spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars every week here we still weren’t allowed to sit in the booth, even if they were all empty, OK that’s fine whatever. But every single time we’ve been here something has gone wrong or something has been mistaken. I haven’t been to a Shiso once without my order being wrong, my salad not coming out, my soup not coming out, or my sushi roll been wrong or the waitress asking me if what I ordered is even on the menu , I’ve always ordered stuff off the menu and I I am not one of those people that make changes to my entrée. I literally just order what’s on the menu and it still comes out completely wrong. I like to get the sushi box and I asked for the tuna roll, and they always bring out the California roll Which I explicitly asked them not to it gives an option for either or so why is it that hard? Also about 50% of the time my soup/salad does not come out. Sometimes my appetizers are wrong and they just bring up the entirely wrong appetizer like I said, I am not a picky person and I’m not someone that changes thing on things on the menu , I’ve heard that this business failed once and it will fail again without proper training. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for five years and the problem with this restaurant is poor management and there’s no training. There’s absolutely no training for any of the employees and they don’t even know what’s on the menu , it is very sad to see a business fail like this, but it is way too expensive to have your order mess up every time. Like I said, we’ve spent hundreds of dollars here and we’re regulars at one point, but we just can’t keep paying the premium prices for such horrible. It’s sad because the food is actually pretty good. But unfortunately, we will not be...
Read moreWe were excited to try out this Japanese Hibachi restaurant and were impressed by its appearance. The food was of high quality and very delicious, and the ambiance was nice as well. However, our experience was marred when my wife found a foreign object in her soup while waiting for the hibachi chef. The object appeared to be some form of fabric or paper, with a size similar to that of a penny.
Although we didn't want to make a big fuss, we informed the waiter, whose English was difficult to understand, and showed him the object. He was surprised, apologized, and offered my wife a new cup of soup which she declined. We had our hibachi dinner and later, a female waitress checked in with us and asked if everything was okay. We told her we were fine, but also informed her of our experience. However, she didn't seem to care much about it, which was disappointing.
We were surprised that no manager came to speak with us about the incident, and we were left feeling like our concerns were not taken seriously. We did appreciate the hibachi chef's great performance and the delicious food he cooked, and we gave him a well-deserved tip. However, we didn't tip the rest of the crew as their lack of concern about the foreign object in the soup left a bad taste in our mouths.
Overall, we believe that accidents can happen in any restaurant, but when the staff, including the waiters, chefs, and managers, don't take these incidents seriously, it reflects poorly on the restaurant as a whole. If it weren't for the foreign object in my wife's soup and the staff's lack of concern, we would have given this restaurant a five-star rating for the hibachi and the chef who cooked it in...
Read moreAs a huge fan of Japanese food and restaurants, I was looking forward to trying Shiso for the first time and I definitely wasn't disappointed.
The restaurant is fairly large and separated into regular tables/booths, a bar, and a hibachi section (where food is cooked in front of you). We sat at a normal table due to having our baby with us, but we were able to watch some of the hibachi stations and they looked very entertaining.
Despite it being a busy night, the atmosphere was relaxed and it felt quieter than it was. The servers were quick to take our order and were very friendly.
Our complete order is listed below: Hibachi dinner w/ shrimp, vegetables (broccoli, carrot, onion, zucchini, mushroom), and noodles Hibachi dinner w/ steak and rice Gyoza appetizer (6 wonton dumplings w/ soy sauce) Raw bluefin tina Shiso sushi (nigiri) topped w/ fish roe. Served with pickled ginger and wasabi on the side 2 house salads (lettuce and shredded carrot w/ ginger dressing) Onion soup (onion broth w/ mushrooms and scallions) Miso soup (miso broth w/ tofu chunks and seaweed)
Everything was delicious, but I was especially impressed by the rich flavors of the bluefin nigiri sushi. The roe topping with ginger and wasabi on the side were great compliments for the bluefin. For the hibachi dinners, I felt like the noodles had just a tad too much soy sauce and the rice was a bit tamer, but overall it was all great.
Prices for dinner were noticeably more expensive than for lunch (as much as $10 more per hibachi plate), so next time I plan to check out the lunch experience. Highly recommend giving Shiso a try! We'll definitely be adding it to our...
