Bookies Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Modesto

My husband, and I visited here for the first time last night. We had an outstanding time!! The security at the door was so friendly, and helpful. Also patient lol (he was talking to people when we walked up, I thought it was just a small group of people chatting at the door, didn’t realize we had to see him before entering, didn’t even realize it was security, and I went to open the other door to enter, just thought you walk in like most places lol. He was very patient, and nice when he told me I had to see him first) I felt so foolish because I didn’t even realize haha. He was really nice, and made us feel welcomed. The drinks, and shots were amazing, and all at a fair price! The bartenders were all so friendly, and attentive too. Even with it being so busy, we never had an empty glass! It was crowded, and everyone we came in contact with inside, was really nice, and fun. Loved the jukebox too, good music! We sat up at the bar, and really enjoyed ourselves. This is our new spot, and we will definitely be back! All the employees, servers, bartenders, security are so amazing, and friendly! The restaurant was clean, and neat, as were the restrooms. First & will be my only visit so I asked two men next to me what is best; so I ordered the Philly Cheese sandwich.

Having only 30 minute meal break I got less than 10 minutes to eat as my order took a long time & place was not very busy.

And "food" NOT WORTH THE WAIT... the cheap white bread bun had a lot of onions & peppers with a little [most of it edible] meat & a hint of cheese! I prefer meat without unchewable gristle in it plus meat with noticable flavor.

Then to add insult it took too long a time to get bartender attention for the bill. Reminder it was not busy! Heck I could of & now realize maybe I should have just left instead of waiting to pay AND I STILL tipped 20% ... go figure!

Please do me a favor & try another place like Fast Eddie's MOAB [which closed just minutes before I could have gotten to it] or others nearby [closer to Hwy 99] like a place I saw that specializes in...

Crude thug employees. - I was absolutely shocked when one of the staff approached me- threatening to physically assault me if I didn't finish my drink immediately and called me a disgusting cuss word (four letter). This was just after the bartender had served me (last call)- saying I could have a moment to finish my drink. This was completely unprovoked. I hardly said a word to anyone to that point when this man threatened me. I informed them I would finish my drink then leave immediately. He stared me down as I drank it and before I could finish said it had been a minute already (more like 15 seconds). The bartender was even visibly upset by his behavior and took him aside to consult.
