Fumi Sushi Restaurant — Restaurant in Modesto

For the price its not that great. We ordered pretty basic plates since we hadn't been here in a long time. Chicken teriyaki, Tempura Shrimp, Calamari Steak and their corresponding rice and Miso Soup. First up, Miso soup was real cold which seemed to make it bot as tasty. I recall the soup being real good. Rice seemed old, it was very dry, almost under cooked. The Chicken was ok, pretty bland, but they seemed to go for quantity vs quality here. Tempura Shrimp was better, but the sauce was almost just water, no flavor. The Calamari steak was so overcooked it was extremely rubbery, almost like chewing on grisle. Maybe I'm being too picky. The place was full, perhaps the rolls are of better quality. Careful going to bathroom, they are clean, but the floor is covered in ibdont know what. Just standing you can feel your feet sliding out from under you. Our server was very nice and patient. So, i'm giving Fumi 4 stars for a compound reason. Originally, i would have said 5, but valentine's day skews this lower.

Normally, Fumi is quick, clean, and delicious. The waitstaff are all wonderfully polite and welcoming, and your drinks are kept topped off. Asking for little extras like replacement chopsticks or spare plates is never a trouble. The food is delicious, fresh, hot (or cold) and worth what you pay.

This was not true on V-day.

On Valentine's, our mistake was made obvious by a 2 hour wait. The restaurant was emptier than usual, yet the food took almost 2 hours to get to us when we were finally seated. And there was a terribly rubbery and bland $14 steak-and-lobster roll. Please do not make that again without some well thought out changes, it needs flavor.

PSA: avoid eating at Fumi on holidays because 75% or more of what is being made is being picked up by uber eats, doordash, postmates, and the like. You WILL need to wait... unless you have it delivered...

Absolutely horrible!! Ive always liked this place have been going here for years but not anymore!! My last order was short a roll but it was a relatively large order and everyone had enough food and no one really complained so i let it slide. Now today i order from Grubhub and it took them 2 hours to get my food ready for delivery when it said it would be delivered to my house within an hour and im not the type of person to really stress over being late i get it.. it gets busy or whatever but the poor delivery guy Marvin sat outside of the restaurant for over an hour!! He only gets paid off of how many deliveries and tips he makes and because of these peoples blatant disregard for common courtesy i took care of him out of my own pocket because its not his fault of how they handled the situation.
