First time: I decided to scroll through the reviews to see if anyone else experienced what I did and sure enough, YES. 1 month ago. 6 months ago…. EVEN 3 YEARS AGO!! Still, no change. So here I go. Stopped in on a nice, hot, Sunny, CA day, on the last day of April, the 30th of 2025, and We walked in. Pretty much walked back out and went somewhere else….. La MORENITA: ON COFFEE ROAD AND SYLVAN.(see pics for their menu) Dad and I walked in, and if my Dad says something, I go with it. We waited, talked amongst ourselves and No acknowledgment, No greet, No Look. Decided to wait and see if a “worker” would be near us after going to a table, and one did, but turned back the other away, disregarding us. Maybe our skin color wasn’t “orange” or “light enough” and I’ve noticed that lots of Mexican places who claim they’re “authentic,” cater to a “certain demographic” then their own “Mexican People” ,but that’s fine. I’m here now writing this and avoided to give them any of my hard earned $$$…. And the 2 of us turned into 5 and we went to La Morenita: 3500 Coffee road, where the food was excellent, fresh and AUTHENTIC. We were greet happily and we had a great time! They serve ice COLD PEPSI AND FRESH ENCHILADAS, sopes, chili rellenos, caldo de pollo, and many other items that other people “disliked at this place”! (Decided to walked all the way to the only person who looked my way and told the Bartender how I felt so whoever reads this, ask him and find out what I said. Good luck and hopefully you get some “mature” waiters instead of “kids” who haven’t experience any kind of “customer service/multitasking/working through breaks” and represent a business “CORRECTLY”

Just kickin some dirt clods with my old pal Peter Punkaneater, we just finished laying out the string lines for this years garden. We were on our way to Dos Compadres Restaurant for the best tacos ever! and I asked Peter, "Peter Punkaneater, how does your garden grow" there's a lot of work to do, it's 6 acres and you plant everything you can think of. Peter tells me his ranch Forman Arturo Sanchez Gutierrez Wong and his son take care of everything and they take all the vegetables to the Farmers Market, he has a booth there, and the name of his booth is, One Wong Turn at the Boarder Vegetables. He tells me the Tacos de Carne Asada are the best on Modesto, and he was right...they were Amazing! 5 stars all day long. ☆☆☆☆☆

I ordered their torta ahogada. Which according to their advertisement is estilo guadalajara. I was very excited as I have had great tortas ahogadas whenever i go to Guadalajara. Their torta here was very subpar. Their tomato sauce was very salty, the carnitas were also very salty and to top it off, they do not have the main component to the torta ahogada. Which is the hot sauce! A very specific one that goes with it. I simply got served a salty, soggy torta that tasted like salty tomato. They missed the target on this one. They were nice when I kindly declined to finish it and took it off my bill. The staff was rather nice about it. I will simply try something else next time.

The food was really good and reasonably priced. That was what made it two stars.

The service made dining here an awful experience. It was my first and only time visiting this restaurant. They did not take my drink order until about 5 minutes after I was seated. 3 different servers came to take my order, give me utensils and napkins, and ask if I needed a drink refill. This resulted in confusion and long wait times. They got my order wrong and when I did eventually need a refill, nobody was available. Also, Diana, the server who gave me napkins, grabbed my mask (which I'd set on the table so I could wear it after my meal) when pointing out where my fork was. I already knew where the cutlery was, so I didn't ask, but she took it upon herself to grab my mask, move it, and point out the fork. I could not wear the mask again after she contaminated it. In a pandemic, it's very important to be sanitary. It is not okay to touch other people's masks, as it's a risk to everyone involved.

When it came time to pay the check, nobody dropped it off at the table, so I went inside to pay it and to ask if my separate to-go order was ready. It was not, so there was an additional wait. They'd had about half an hour to prepare it, and it was not ready. I arrived at around 3 PM, and there were only a few other 1-3 person tables, so this was not during the lunch rush. I usually tip around 25%, but I did not tip here because I was not served at all. They only brought me one drink and my food because I couldn't get it myself, otherwise they wouldn't have provided any service.

The food was good, so take it to-go, if you trust their sanitation practices. I will not be dining here again because based on their employees' behavior, I don't think they take customer health seriously. However, if you're fine with taking the risk, the food is good and you'll be able to serve yourself at home...

A reservation was made for 20-25 people at 7pm , called ahead the day before to confirm, we get to the restaurant they have no seats ready no notice of a large party coming to have a birthday dinner. We ask to talk to the manager this guy really said we have no managers. Really...? No managers at this restaurant to run the business and keep things going smoothly? They aren't even trying to take our order at this point all the guy is doing is talking back and forth with one of our relatives who originally made the reservations. He showed the call he made the day before to show he called the correct place. Yes we have the correct number. All the guy is doing is making calls trying to see who we talked to. Our orders could have been taken at this point and put in. It's almost 8 PM we have no drink yet. This place is horrible never again eating here. BEWARE OF MAKING...
