Umi Sushi — Restaurant in Modesto

Unfortunately I felt treated less than third class. I am White and my partner and his mother are Filipino. They received there food reasonably in time. 10 minutes into the meal, my server hadn't returned. Flagged down another server and she rather curtly advised that all rolls were taking longer (although noticed other tables received there's reasonably on time.) However I had also ordered Ramen. She brought it to me but it didn't look like the picture and barely had anything in the bowl except noodles. 15 minutes later I still hadn't received my roll. Keep in mind the original server still hadn't returned and about 25 minutes have elapsed since everyone else's food was served. Flagged the other server down again and told her to take the roll off the ticket. She than states she'll give it to me if it can be made quickly (implying I as the customer wouldn't have a choice to remove it from my order if it wasn't made yet.) Never was some kind of discount offered for such 3rd class service. Being appreciative of how hard and thanksless serving can be I still left a 15% tip. Also the food was good and prices reasonable. So if you're not White (or if you are, make sure you're with other people who are not and have them order for you or get ready for less than Walmart service) enjoy this...

Me and the rest of my family went for dinner here on a Friday night, and it was completely obvious that they were understaffed. Not because of the service or anything, but because the few servers were running around doing five things at once and boy were they AMAZING at it!

The two young women who served us were absolutely great, and nothing but polite to each and everyone of us. There was a group double our size across from us that I believe was one of the main reasons the poor waitresses had such a rough night. Some of the demands we could hear from them were pretty bizarre and met with rudeness when the waitresses couldn't accomplish them properly. Gave my table a good snicker though!

The food itself was absolutely delicious. I ordered the fried potstickers as an appetizer, and got the green dragon roll as an entree. Both were great but I will definitely be coming back to have another green dragon roll soon ! And maybe try some of their...

Very disappointing. We ordered a few of their rolls that were 50% off and they seemed like they had left out 50% of the roll. Extremely small rolls, these would have been $18+ at full price. Most of the rolls contained tempura something, it was difficult to find a roll that contained raw fish. Those type of rolls may be someone's style but they were not mine. They all come slopped in multiple sauces as well, again not for me. The Hamachi lovers roll was very tasty but also very tiny, less than 1 inch of fish on top. We also ordered the sashimi salad, I do not recommend this at all. Mostly lettuce doused in massive amounts of dressing, literally a pool of dressing on the bottom of the plate. The "sashimi" for the salad was tiny half inch cubes of fish, I struggled to find the fish in all the lettuce, $15 for severely overdressed lettuce. Service was good.
