My family have been loyal customers for approximately 27 years, going back to when they were in Sand Hill Plaza. Over the years, each time we go, the service is terrible and we are ignored. We watch the tables around us getting served while we can't even get water. We've continued to patronize this restaurant because the food has always been good. Last night was the final straw. We arrived at 7:50 pm. We watched 4 separate groups of patrons get seated and served drinks, water, chips and salsa while we sat there, ignored. The waiter/owner finally took our order. The sloppy nachos were not brought out until 8:45. Almost an hour after our arrival. Meanwhile, we watched the tables around us receive their appetizers, more drinks, entrees and checks. At 8:38 I asked the waiter/owner where the nachos were. No apology was offered. A few moments later he arrived with a margarita "on the house ". I had already finished my $10 skinny margarita. The nachos were clearly rushed with clumpy cheese. Our entrees arrived at 9:10, an hour and 20 minutes after our arrival. By now, everyone around us had paid their bills and left. These are patrons who arrived AFTER we did. My husband received a chicken burrito when he ordered pork. By now we were disgusted and asked for the bill. We were charged $18 for a jumbo margarita. Again, I only ordered ONE skinny margarita and the other regular margarita was "on the house". It wasn't worth disputing so we took the "on the house" margarita out of his tip. A few years back we confronted the owner about the way we're always treated because it feels personal. We are always ignored. He made up some excuse that I can't even remember. We kept giving them the benefit of the doubt. We will not be going back to El Coyote. 25+ years is a very long time to be treated badly by the owner and staff. I could understand if all the tables are being ignored and service is slow. However, we are the only ones who consistently receive slow service after eventually being...
ย ย ย Read moreThis place used to be great, but man did they fall from grace. Service last night was horrendous. Server was slow and unattentive. On a visibly slower Tuesday night, we waited a half hour to actually put in our food. Finally, our waiter came, but before I could place my order for table guac, he literally stopped IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR ORDER to say goodbye to a customer, chat, and get his number....truly unacceptable.
The food was hit and miss. Table guac was quickly thrown together without lime or salt the way it was in the past. My gf was happy with her chorizo salad bowl, fine. But my entree honestly sucked. I made the mistake of ordering the mole poblano chicken, what had always been my favorite dish from El Coyote. This time, however, it was visibly rushed and poorly executed....chicken was tough because it was flash cooked instead of slow simmered in a "mole" sauce that was VERY runny and had zero spice or heat. Flavor was very off...it was definitely whipped together lacking all necessary ingredients. Maybe if I had asked for soy sauce and chocolate microwaved chicken surprise, I would have actually gotten what I wanted?
Either way, I wont be back for a looong time if at all. Especially given all the great Mexican places I can eat at, by comparison, this place...
ย ย ย Read moreWe've gone here three times now...while the food the first two times wasn't anything above average, the food during our most recent visit was well below average.
We ordered a chicken quesadilla as an appetizer ($14)...it was no larger than what you would get in a kid's meal at Taco Bell and tasteless.
For entrees we order shrimp tacos, which came with minimal shrimp and warm guacamole, and the Coyote Bowl, which was overwhelmed by lettuce and sour cream.
Our waiter was working both the bar and the high top area where we were seated...he never came to check on us after our food (which resulted in us not ordering another round of drinks), and it took about 20 minutes for him to bring us our check. Yes he was busy with his work, but he was also socializing with a few tables and did not even look at us as he walked by during our meal.
The lighting in most areas of the restaurant is not normal...there is a purpleish tint throughout which isn't the most pleasant on the eyes.
Not really willing to give this place another try...will be looking for better Mexican options in the...
