I used to work here as a teen in 1991 for 7yrs. Back then, Margie owned it. It was the BEST place I've ever worked at. We had our regular customers, and those from outside of Monroeville, who all loved the ice cream and service we provided. After Margie sold the building, and even though the new owner added flavors, it hasn't been the same since. I've seen many many customers that were regulars when Margie owned it, and they've all told me that the service is not the same, & even the ice cream wasn't as good. I can attest to that myself. It's really bad that the hrs are so out of whack, as we opened @ 10a, closed @10p. We were just your basic community ice cream parlor that everyone new our names, and a couple of us even had certain customers that wanted only us to make their treats! Sadly, it's not like that anymore. Now, it just seems like it's only a place to get ice cream w/out the personality. Even the lottery customers have stopped going there, as they said it's not like it was when Margie & the rest of us were there. I spent 7yrs of my life there starting at 15 in '91.I even went to work there a couple of hrs when I wasn't on schedule just for something to do w/out getting paid! It was that good of a place to be!! It was like a 2nd home 2 my best friend, Lisa & I, & Margie was like a 2nd mom to us. Sad to see that place go downhill especially since they've carried on the name, as Margie did from the previous owners, only thing is that the previous owners loved how she handled the business after she bought it from them. Three owners of Charlie's & only 2 of them were wonderful...Chuck & his wife, then Margie. Like I stated, personality is gone and things have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe used to love going to Charlieās for an ice cream treat, but a recent experience has changed that. We ordered 3 items for $14.60. The cashier was given $20.60 and was struggling to figure out the change, and she gave back $5 and coins. We told her it should be $6 because she was given exact change. The employees continued to give us a hard time and fight about it, and eventually someone shouted to just give the $6. Then the ice cream we received was supposed to be a medium but was obviously made smaller because of the debacle. (We went two nights in a row and ordered mediums both nights. The second night, when the issue occurred, the mediums were noticeably smaller.) I donāt fault the employees for the math error, but their handling of the whole thing was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst time I had their ice cream a few years ago, everything from the service to product was very disappointing. This time around, service was excellent, my kid loved her bubble gum flavored soft serve and cone. I had twist with rainbow sprinkles and the husband had a sundae with chocolate and caramel. Sundae was hollow, and hardly any toppings. My cone was small for a "medium." I also think the mix they use for soft serve just isn't as good as some other places. I'll just try something different next time we visit.
All in all, I do like that it's a small business and will go there again. It's nice to go somewhere that isn't a chain store. They have lots of flavors and options. Their pricing is comparable to most ice...
