I recently had the pleasure of dining at MatkaBar Indian Restaurant and Bar in Montgomery, Alabama, and I must say it was an exceptional experience. My visit was so delightful that I returned for a second time to savor more of their delectable offerings.
The Chicken Hyderabadi Biryani was a true standout, bursting with aromatic flavors and perfectly cooked rice. The blend of spices was just right, creating a dish that was both rich and satisfying. The Chicken Korma curry was equally impressive, with a creamy and savory sauce that complemented the tender chicken pieces perfectly. Our 9 years old daughter mentioned this item as heavenly food.
The Mutton Roganjosh was a delightful surprise, as the succulent mutton pieces were cooked to perfection in a flavorful gravy that left me wanting more. It's evident that the chefs at MatkaBar take pride in crafting dishes that showcase the authenticity and complexity of Indian cuisine.
To top off the meal, I indulged in their Kulfi Malai, a sweet treat that perfectly rounded out the dining experience. The kulfi was rich and creamy, providing a delightful conclusion to an already exceptional meal.
Beyond the outstanding food, the service at MatkaBar was impeccable. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to ensure that we had a memorable dining experience. It's always a pleasure to dine in a restaurant where the staff is not only skilled but genuinely passionate about delivering top-notch service.
One aspect that particularly impressed me was MatkaBar's commitment to maintaining halal standards. As someone who adheres to halal dietary requirements, it's reassuring to know that the restaurant prioritizes these standards, ensuring that all guests can enjoy their meals with confidence.
In conclusion, MatkaBar Indian Restaurant and Bar exceeded my expectations on every front. From the mouthwatering dishes to the excellent service and commitment to halal standards, this establishment is a gem in Montgomery, Alabama. Whether you're a fan of Indian cuisine or a newcomer looking to explore its flavors, MatkaBar is a must-visit destination that will leave you with a satisfied palate and a desire to return for more. There is also an indian grocery store at the complex, which...
Read moreThis is a gorgeously decorated restaurant. The chairs are a bit odd and hard to sit comfortably in. The waitresses are pleasant, but getting service was hard, even though there were just 4 customers, 3 of which had been served and we were the newest arrival, they didn’t come to take our order for ages, they were huddled together looking at something on their phone ? - not sure what- their backs to us, laughing, chatting, and we had to raise our hand to get their attention so we could order. The ordering process itself was pleasant. We ordered some food, chicken biryani being one of the items, and since they were kind enough to give us the option of 1-10 scale we chose 5. Well, food was spicy, if that is 5, please order -5 if you can’t handle spice, and in a pot of rice there were two pathetic pieces of chicken and one bone. Very disappointing. The portions were good though. We again had to struggle to get their attention to get some raita and a to go box- we literally saw the waitress go back and wait at the checkout as a guy walked in and proceeded to chat for 10 mins if not more- by this time we had suffered through that portion of spicy rice and a male waiter came.by and we told him still waiting on raids and we were in a hurry. He told her and she then went to the kitchen. She came back with one measly little portion of raita even though we were 2, no to go box. All in all it was a disappointing and frustrating experience. Oh, and- I couldn’t believe we were served relishes in chipped jars. I looked around and they were on several tables. It’s a safety issue and I would never use any chipped item for myself let alone guests...
Read moreThe food here is absolutely delicious, and this has always been our go-to spot for authentic Indian cuisine. The restaurant is clean, and the curry is some of the best in town. For the taste of the food, I’d want to go. But for the service, it inclines me not to go.
Unfortunately, the service leaves a lot to be desired. It often feels like basic requests, such as getting water, are a burden to the staff. One younger, tall server in particular tends to make uncomfortable facial expressions when you decline naan or appetizers. Sometimes I just prefer rice with my curry because it’s already quite filling.
There have also been times when we weren’t given the complimentary chips and dips, even though we saw other tables receiving them. When we asked about it, the response was, “We are limited. Do you still want it?” It was disappointing, especially since other guests seemed to receive it without hesitation.
Another issue is the volume of the music. They often play music videos at such a high volume that I can’t even hear the person sitting across from me. It makes the dining experience feel chaotic rather than enjoyable.
I really want to keep coming back for the food, but the inconsistent service and overwhelming noise make me...
