China Buffet — Restaurant in Monticello

This place has been open for years. I have eaten here many times over those years. Different days and times. The last 2 times when I have dined here, last time was 8/8/24 for my 50th birthday between 5:30- 6pm, and there were 9 of us. The food has not been good. Either it has no flavor, tastes old, the hot food has been lukewarm or cold. The only 3 items I liked were the Tofu sweet/sour soup, chicken meatloaf and chocolate pudding. Maybe a few new recipes need to be tried/used?? The service was ok. None of the servers were smiling. It was not very busy. The decor needs to be updated. It's been the same probably since they opened. There is plenty of seating and it was clean. The price is expensive for the poor quality of food. The food was over or undercooked and salted/sugared way more than it should've been to mask the bland, soggy nature. I tried a few dishes and while the crab was passable, the amounts of cheese and celery put in to save on crab made this a goopy mess. The "cooked rat"'s were fatty at best and their signature house egg foo young was crispy on the outside, watery, bland mess on the inside. The onions were often undercooked and the last saving grace, their sugar donuts, still taste of yeast in 40% of the middle. The chocolate pudding was too rich in chocolate as if they poured too much syrup in and the undercooked cheese cake had enough sugar that one small tasting left me with gritty sugar sticking to my teeth everywhere. Overall disappointed. I usually love Chinese buffets.

I came here on a Sunday night around six. Freshness of food seemed mixed. A shrimp dish was cold and they never restocked it the entire time I was there eating presumably since there was still a little left in the pan. Many other items items were not restocked while I was there and looked old.

The beef chicken broccoli was fresh and tasted terrific as well as the chicken on a stick. And other items as well. I didn't try the Sushi nor the mongolian grill.

While the restaurant was generally clean many plates out for use still had leftover rice stuck on them and I had to pick around the plate stacks to find a clean plate to use.

The wait staff was friendly and readily picked up used plates and refilled my drink.
