El Giro Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Monticello

My son and I stopped in for a bite before traveling to Athens for my other son’s high school basketball game last night. It was our third time eating there. Food was good, but will remember to get grilled chicken next time. The stewed or boiled chicken had no flavor. The margaritas, excellent!

It was, however, disturbing to see an employee and an elderly take out customer arguing at the register. Apparently the customer thought she’d ordered a small taco salad, I believe. What she received and was charged for was a large taco salad. The employee went to battle about this! Telling her “don’t speak to me that way”, and “let me go find the person who took your order”, as if to prove she was right! It was unbelievable, and totally inappropriate.

Finally she offered to make this lady a small taco salad (pretty sure that’s what it was) and she would pay for the small taco salad! Genious! Perhaps that should have been offered first before the huge scene?

Whatever happened to the saying “the customer is always right?” Was it worth humiliating a customer to be “right?” It didn’t make the employee look too great either! This lady was easily in her 70’s, and in my opinion was treated poorly. The employee kept accusing her of yelling at her, but the only raised voice I heard was the employee’s! And, she is an elderly woman who must have gotten confused on what she ordered. It happens.

Finally this lady gets her smaller order, and this employee, of maybe another employee (she was trashing this lady to the other employees) kind of starts it up again!

Once this customer leaves, and I’m sure will never return, the employee felt the need to “explain” what happened to select patrons throughout the restaurant! I could not believe it, and have NEVER witnessed such unprofessional behavior in a restaurant. This elderly lady was black, but surely in this day and age it was not because of her race?...

Super understaffed, so there was obviously a wait. That wasn't the problem. There's a sign outside that says "Mexico Restaurant." Our waitress offered cheese dip but refrained from telling us it would be an extra $3.50 for something so mediocre. This was before we got our menus, so we didn't have the chance to see the prices. I needed a refill, so four different people came to refill my drink. Complete lack of communication between wait staff. The cheese in my enchilada stuck to the roof of my mouth like peanut butter. We never got our ticket, but rather we were expected to go to the register to finally know our total. That was a pain. We couldn't look at our ticket and determine pricing issues, tip, etc. When we went to pay, there was a stack of dirty dishes right in front of the cash register. Filthy. Piled with half-eaten wings and dried cheese dip. No soap in the bathroom. The younger girls working there obviously were frazzled but still cared about being likeable, but the one experienced waitress didn't seem to care about the customer service aspect at all. I had a lot of hope for this place. I realize this is Monticello, but that doesn't mean this is a...

Food is decent. Basic American Mexican fare. The issue is the service. Absolute worst customer service ever. I’m super lenient because I understand that getting people in jobs are tight right now but the server Taylor I had tonight was the absolute worst. I had to ask her for a menu after waiting almost 10 mins on her to acknowledge my presence. Only for her to bring the menu and immediately ask if I knew what I wanted because the kitchen was going to close soon. Keep in mind it would’ve been at least another 30-45 mins before the kitchen was set to close and I’d been waiting on her to finish chatting for 10 mins. So I placed my order and it came out incorrectly and the entree came out before my dip. I took it anyway because I was like whatever it’s not that serious. At this point the server still hasn’t come back to ask if the food was ok or if I needed anything because she’s hanging out at the table in the corner holding someone’s baby. Told the manager Callie and she offered to discount my meal and walked off. Forgot the discount is it too much to get some decent...
