EDIT: Tried this place again this time ordering delivery to our home. THIS PLACE HAS TO BE A MONEY LAUNDERING FRONT! Seriously there is no way they should still be in business after the dinner we had tonight... HINT: Lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, onion, pickles are VEGAN. You can put them on an organic vegan deluxe burger and it will still be vegan. The fresh veggies that cost $5 were reheated frozen veggies that looked like they came from the just expired ultra cheap shelf in the back of Shop Rite. Ugggh... I gave this diner a second chance and they threw it away. I can say with 100% confidence that the MRE Tray Rations the Marine Corps served me in Afghanistan were better than this dinner... ---- OLDER REVIEW: I don’t normally dine at places with less than 4-4.5 star average reviews. I made an exception for this place though because it is so close to home and it has a vegan menu! When I went there for lunch there was 3 staff members working and one party. The service was prompt and efficient. The food was 3.5 stars but I bumped my review to 4 because they have organic/nonHFCS ketchup at every table and you can pay with your phone by QR code. I got the tempeh Ruben. The bread was lightly toasted so by the time I got to the second half it was a touch on the soggy side from the sauerkraut. It’s the only restaurant for miles around with an actual vegan menu. I want them to succeed I really do. Perhaps if they started cooking with local ingredients and added some color or pizazz to their plates… The restrooms are clean and well stocked. They have a/c but it was not running when I visited - just one small fan. I get it electricity is expensive and when you have 3 parties dining for lunch you gotta cut costs somewhere… I dig the interior of the restaurant. I could totally see Quentin Tarantino filming an epic movie scene in the vein of Reservoir Dogs in this establishment. I’ll be back - there is still several items I want to try.

I’ve driven by this place many times and I’ve lived minutes away for years but hesitated to stop in because of the reviews. I finally decided to just try it. It has a cozy and interesting feel when you walk in so that’s very nice. It was very empty when I went. There was one other table with customers. That isn’t a problem for me at all. The waitress was nice, but service was a bit slow. The food took forever to come out. The other table was eating already so it’s not like there was a huge rush of orders hitting the kitchen at the same time. The food was expensive, especially for what it was and the quality of it. I got the California Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was a horrid texture. It was thick in some places yet watery and thin in others. It was lumpy (see photo) and the only thing I could taste was sour. I couldn’t pick out any other flavors. The home fries were room temperature at best, dry, and bland. Nothing tasted like anything! I have no issue with food that is lacking in salt or even seasoning. The ingredients didn’t even taste like they were supposed to. The tomato tasted like a watery, mushy disk. The avocado was the best part because it was exactly as you’d expect an avocado to be. The coffee was not memorable or worth getting. It’s really a shame since I love so many of the food establishments in the area. I was hoping this one would be a slam dunk to me as well. $20+ before tip for a common breakfast dish that was hardly edible and coffee is terrible. Save your hard earned money and go elsewhere for better, cheaper food.

The waitress we had was very nice on top of our needs, but when we found pieces of stringy hair like articles in our food she was persistent it wasn't anything, turns out it was the sponge left behind little pieces of hair like material in the strainer and we just happened to get the Alfredo pasta freshly drain in the strainer. The waitress insisted on getting another plate but by that time our appetite was already gone from realizing what we had began eating and found. I felt that being forced into taking another meal when we were all set was a bit to much, which has changed our minds on going back. Other than the one incident when the food came it was prepped well and the first few bites were very good. I did not want a free meal but to have another meal the same as the one that had something in the 3 plates of pasta forced upon my family was not appreciated at all. In response to your reply, the pasta dishes were 2 plates of Alfredo, another pasta dish with chicken, sides were salads and a squash soup (delicious), ravioli and a shrimp pasta dish as well, we arrived around 2pm on June 17th. We got 2 free dishes of Alfredo from the wonderful waitress older women dark hair do not remember her name since it was 3 month's ago, the only bad experience was feeling forced into taken the food, the waitress tried hard to keep us happy and she did not have to. Picture below is the estimated time we were at the diner from arrival to departure.

Awful! And they charged us more than what was listed on the menu! I ordered London Broil with mushrooms and gravy, mashed potatoes with green beans. I pride myself on being a pretty good cook for the last 42 years! First the London Broil should have been trimmed like I do. My first mouthful was pieces of fat and tough. Next the mushrooms were old. I would never have served them alone on a steak. They could have gotten away with old mushrooms maybe in a soup but not alone directly on a steak. They were pretty iffy. The gravy was a light brown lumpy undercooked rue served cold on the side in a ramekin? Why? It tasted like flour and because it was cold was a sticky dryish tasteless wet lump with huge visible lumps of flour. The London Broil should have been served with a hot brown smooth tasty gravy mixed with the mushrooms. Jar or packet gravy would have been tastier. When I asked about the vegetables being served I asked if they were fresh? I thought maybe yellow squash, zucchini and maybe carrots and onions or broccoli. She said oh no it’s frozen corn, carrots and she said it might be peas. I opted for the green beans that were obviously frozen and tough sautéed in jar garlic and they were undercooked. The mashed potatoes were good because they were served piping hot. The rolls must have been frozen because they were ice cold almost frozen in the center. Rolls with an ice cold almost frozen Center. So not wanting to complain I didn’t say anything. I let it go. When the bill came the prices for the entrees were a few dollars more! They charged us more than the prices on the menu! When asked about this Our server says didn’t you see the sign on the door? Prices subject to change! I said no I was looking at the big chalkboard to the right of the door with the specials which weren’t on the menu. I didn’t see the little piece of paper declaring higher prices amidst all kind of holiday artwork on the door! I said she should have told us. I have never been to a restaurant that randomly changes prices, doesn’t tell you and makes like you’re ignorant for not seeing a tiny note on the front door. And as soon as we left I started getting stomach cramps and My husband had to stop rather abruptly to get me to a public bathroom. All around not good food, poor quality, old mushrooms and I didn’t like the deception of the price changes! I’ve been to several other Diners in the area ( Groton, Mystic and old Saybrook) who always have great fresh food and they don’t mysteriously change their prices! I will never go back here. This was not our first time here but it certainly will...

Came here for breakfast. You walk in and you are not greeted by staff. You seat yourself which is fine, but then you wait until one of the unfriendly servers comes and takes your order. We noticed that the bacon and sausage is already precooked and sitting in a warmer(not so warm when you get it). Maybe because there is one guy doing all the cooking for the entire place and one guy making toast. We watched because we sat at the counter while they handled everyone's food without gloves. I ordered 2 French toast, scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. The eggs were not fluffy but instead flat, and a little burnt from the grill it was cooked on. My husband ordered 2 eggs over easy, cornedbeef hash and toast. We each had a juice. Sounds simple enough. The French toast had no flavor!! No cinnamon, no powder sugar, just bread on the grill. My husband's hash and sausage were cold. So we only took a few bites and we were done. They tried to charge us about $35 for this lousy breakfast. I would not of had a problem paying for it if the food and service was good. We expressed our concerns about the meal before she gave us the check, so they knew before they charged us. Needless to say, I refused to pay $35 for a breakfast that I could not enjoy. They wanted to take of 10%. I refused. The server gave me an attitude and asked "well how much do you think you should pay?" I said I was willing to pay half, seeing how it was just a waste of time on everyone's part. My time was wasted for coming to this place just to drink juice, her time was wasted serving us because we didn't leave a tip for the horrible service and attitude and the cooks time was wasted making something that ended up in...
