As a busy mom and small business owner myself, I was long over due for a night out with friends to celebrate a close friend's 40th birthday .We were all excited to support a new small business in town and enjoy some entertainment. Unfortunately, that was not the experience we had. Around 7 pm, I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio. The server came back to tell me they only had Chardonnay left. No problem, any white wine would do. However, when I went to order a second glass, the owner told me they were completely out of white wine altogether. Since white wine is all I drink, I offered to purchase a bottle from elsewhere and bring it back if he was okay with that. He happily agreed, offered to keep it chilled, and even said he’d pour it for me. I returned with the bottle, and he poured me a glass and put it on ice as we discussed. Minutes later, he approached me again and explained that his general manager was upset and claimed it was against ABC laws for them to handle my wine (it’s worth noting that in North Carolina, bringing your own bottle is allowed with a corkage fee). He insisted that I put the bottle in my car ..which I didn’t have , so a friend offered to keep it in her vehicle instead. While waiting outside for her keys, the general manager, the owner, and a security guard stood on the stairs glaring at me as though I had done something terribly wrong. The general manager repeatedly used the F-word when referring to me having the bottle outside, which was both disrespectful and unprofessional. I was made to feel like the bad guy even though I had asked the owner permission and was granted. A small argument followed, and I ended up leaving with my things. It’s also worth mentioning that while initially talking with the owner about the wine situation, one of the servers scolded me for standing in a service area, which I only realized after being reprimanded. Several stand buyers said they had also been talked at for standing in her way. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I was excited to support a new local establishment, but the lack of professionalism and hospitality was extremely disheartening. Based on this experience and what I’ve heard from others, I won’t be returning. I typically do not leave reviews unless they are great ones, but I’m not leaving this based on the wine or the air conditioning or anything out of the owners hands. I am leaving this review based on how I was treated by the owner, General...
Read moreI typically give brand new restaurants a few weeks to get their routine together before I try them out, but I made an exception with Rock the Dock because I was so excited to have a piano bar in Morehead City. So, I went 4 times in the first 2 weeks! The shrimp salad sliders were perfect and the sides were very good. I was delighted to discover there are alcohol free beer options. Service was prompt and the servers were all very kind and attentive. The musicians are “blow your mind” talented and I have been amazed by seeing the staff grow from a brand new group of strangers to a well oiled machine in a couple of weeks. I couldn’t be happier this place exists in downtown and will be back...
