I would like to be able to tell you how happy I was with my meal, but unfortunately, that is not the case. I cannot tell you because I did not eat there. Sunday, March 6th I drove an hour to eat at Little Richard’s barbeque. A good friend told me about how tasty their brisket was and that we should eat there when we were going to be in Mt. Airy together in April. I thought I would try it early by eating there with my family on Sunday. As we opened the door, I noticed the sign said Sunday, 11am until 2:30. After20 plus years of restaurant management I try not to enter an establishment within an hour of closing because I know how hard it is to clean up and have your employees home at a reasonable time. Against my better judgment, we proceeded on because I really wanted to try the brisket I had heard so much about and most restaurants do not close on Sunday afternoon so early. We were met at the door by a lady (did not catch her name) who looked at my family and myself liked we had just ran over her dog. With obvious disgust for our presence at 20 minutes before quitting time, she said “how many? Four?” I said yes, as she sat us at a booth a few feet from the door as she looked at her watch. Before we could get completely seated, much less even open the menu, she asked us what we wanted to drink. We told her what we wanted to drink as she sped off. I looked at my wife and asked her if she got the impression that we were not welcomed there. She smiled and said yes. Within a minute, the same lady returned and asked if we knew what we wanted. I had not had time to look at the entire menu. She apparently could tell we were being herded like cattle because she then looked at her watch again and stated, “Well I have to get it in.” My wife politely told her we would need another minuet and she said “ok” as she looked disgusted again at us and sped off. At this point, I told my wife I was not going to be treated as if I was a burden and give this place my money after I drove an hour to get there. So, we all got up and left. Therefore, I did not eat at Little Richard’s nor will I ever. I will also tell anyone who ever mentions Mt. Airy to me about my experience there. It is not my fault this rude lady wants to be cut from the floor, roll silverware, do side work or even smoke. If she does not want to wait tables for a living, there are plenty of other job available right now and she needs to find another one. If this restaurant would like to stay in business, they need to do a better job of hiring employees because there are one hundred other restaurants between there and Winston-Salem who would be more than happy to have my sixty dollars pulse tip. I would not ever eat there regardless of how good there food is supposed to be. The only reason I an giving a star at all is because it will not let me post this...
Read moreTony and I knew when we made our last minute plans for a road trip to NC that wherever we call it a night, our dinner would be Southern BBQ..and not just at any joint selling BBQ, it had to be on specializing in it...so when we decided to sleep in Mt Airy, NC., Little Richard's was the winner. Specializing in Lexington Style BBQ..wasn't really sure what that was but willing to try it out
Tony and I navigated with Google Map to the restaurant and was pleasantly surprised that at 6pm on Saturday night, not too busy to get into. The hostess greeted us immediately at a booth near the back from the door, I like that!! I am always cold!! She took our drink order of Sweet Southern Iced Tea with lemon and Tony had Budweiser Beer. After looking over the menu, I asked the waitress a few questions and she also offered me a taste of the BBQ Cole Slaw, like regular Slaw but no mayo its mixed with BBQ sauce..I wasn't a fan but I wanted to try it and was thankful she gave me the opportunity.
We went with a Combo three meat platter with 2 sides: we chose double of the Ribs on the bone and some Beef Brisket. Our sides were Mac N'Cheese and Baked Beans and we chose a third side of Collard Greens and it was served with Hush Puppies. The food was terrific not one little complaint other than I was so full I could not finish my plate and I had no room to try their Banana Pudding..I highly recommend the restaurant and was pleased with the pricing. Total for food, taxes and $7 tip for the fabulous waitress was only $42. Definitely will go back again! Definitely recommend! Great...
Read moreTony and I was wanting to enjoy some Good Ole' Fashion BBQ, so based on Yelp & Google Little Richard's was the leader in Mount Airy area.
We arrived about 6pm on a Saturday evening, trying to beat the crowd, we did but barely! We were greeted and seated immediately. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with my questions. Tony ordered a Budweiser & I got a Southern Sweet Tea with Lemon. (Very Sweet)
Tony and I ordered a Combo 3 Meat Platter to share of BBQ Ribs and Beef Brisket along with Hush Puppies and choice of 2 sides. We choose Baked Beans & Mac N' Cheese plus an extra side of Collard Greens. I also asked to sample their advertised BBQ Cole Slaw, it was strange to me so I had to try it. It's basically Cole Slaw mixed with BBQ sauce instead of Mayo, not a fan
Little Richard's advertised they are a Lexington Style BBQ Joint, and I wanted to try it Lexington style. Turns out it's very watery, with ketchup and Spices with Vinegar. Served Hot in a glass Growler Bottle...loved the way it was served...5 stars for that alone. I personally liked the sauce, it was too thin for Tony so he opted for their Smokehouse thicker BBQ sauce. I enjoyed Lexington Style
Everything was good. Waitress very attentive, my tea stayed full. Food was excellent! Definitely would eat here again, highly recommend...taxes, total plus her $7 tip was $42. We left stuffed as ticks, sleepy 😴 and happy bears!!! Only regret my tummy got too full and no room for their...
