El Agavero Mexicano — Restaurant in Mount Airy

Decided we needed to try this instead of our regular favorite Mexican restaurant once we saw online that some posters recommended it as "the best" in Mount Airy... And it wasn't bad for the most part. Staff was very attentive and the place was packed, but I didn't find the flavors of anything that exciting. Worst part was my husband ordered a pablamo pepper, which is his favorite thing and he gets it everywhere we go, but it came out looking like spinach dip?? There was literally no pepper to be found, only disintegrated green stuff that might have been a pepper at one time , but now looked more like spinach. In addition the flavor of it was very poor. We tried to ask the waiter about it and of course in broken English he did not understand what we were complaining about. The manager seemed equally perplexed by our concern that there was no pepper to be found on the plate. They did take a few dollars off the dish at the register which is something that I definitely appreciate, but I wish they had taken the whole thing back because other than one bite we certainly didn't eat it. Not saying I wouldn't go again and give them another chance but I am saying they are definitely not "the best"...

This place is ridiculous there is one waiter that is skinny and short and he smiles constantly he is by far the worst waiter he does not refill drinks forgets food waits til your food is cold to bring it out also does not check on you told the blond hair manager she said she would take care of it and give a discount the next time went back the next week because we go once a week and was sit in the same guys section asked to be moved and then the waiter and the guy who seats you stood there laughing because we moved the new waiter came over and I asked if it was possible to see the owner he told me he was only there on Tuesday or Wednesday it was Thursday and I was seated on the side where I could see back in the kitchen and guess who I seen back there? The owner I had asked to see washing dishes through the swing door and I just find it pathetic and sad that the guy would lie right to my face I made sure his tip showed him as much when I went to pay the guy at the register asked about our discount and she said no so anyways as you can tell we want be back straight up lie to my face? Wonder if they know...

If I could give less than one star, I would. The food used to be great, but it has slowly gone downhill. Yesterday, I ordered two mushroom quesadillas, the first one was ok, but when I went to eat the second one I noticed an off-taste. I tried another bite to make sure it wasn't just me and confirmed something was not right. The taste was similar to a chemical so I sent it back.

I told the waitress and she went to talk to the manager, but no one acknowledged me other than asking if I wanted the plate out of my way. In the end, I was still charged for two quesadillas and when I went to the counter I asked why. I would have had no issue paying if I simply sent it back, but the taste was off and something was not right with it. The lady at the counter told me that "they", I am assuming the manager and waitress, told her to still charge me for two....

In the end, I did not pay for the quesadilla, but I wasn't worried so much about $2, but more about the way I was treated as if I did something wrong and that they didn't seem to care the food could potentially be...
