The restaurant was completely empty when I arrived with my mother and husband. The waitress looked angry almost like we were ruining her night. Didn't think too much of it at the time. Ran to use the restroom of which a kitchen employee was exiting. When I went to wash my hands there was barely any soap. I had to keep going at the dispenser to get a tiny drop. That kind of grossed me out realizing the kitchen employee barely washed her hands. We ordered three waters and I nicely mentioned to the waitress that their soap was basically out.
My husband ordered one steak taco and one steak gordita. I advised the waitress I would have the same. My mother ordered a gordita.
15 minutes passed no water. The waitress was chatting it up with other employees. My mother used the bathroom and also realized there was still no soap. She grabbed a bottled drink for herself on the way back. Still no water.
Another 5-10 minutes later my mother asks her nicely if she could get the waters when she gets a chance. She keeps chatting.
Another 5-10 minutes the waitress brings our food (still no water). She brings out double the order, four steak tacos, five gorditas. It should have been two tacos and three gorditas total. I'm immediately confused and let her know the order is wrong. The waitress gave me attitude and said I repeated the order back to you! I asked you! She did and it was right when she repeated it back. At this point this feels personal. It's almost like she's treating us like this on purpose. The place is empty. So I tell her the solution is simple she can take back her extra order. Bring me an empty plate and I can divide the food on my husbands plate. And I again remind her when she brings the extra plate back to bring us waters. I am thirsty!
She brings me a plate and still no waters. About five mins later she finally brings the water. Basically at the end of our meal.
We then proceed to wait for another 5-10 minutes after our meal and she's not bringing the bill. My mother asks for the bill. She says there's no charge. I guess they realized how bad our service was and decided not to charge us. My husband asked again on the way out attempting to pay and she said not to worry about it. Suddenly she becomes this nice young lady explaining to my husband it's okay it's on the house. Had her attitude been like that the whole time I would have loved to give her a tip.
This is by far my worst experience eating out. I understand mistakes happen this is not the first time a restaurant got my order wrong but it was the first time a waitress reacted in this way to the mistake and just the overall attitude the whole time. I will never return here even though I must say the food was good. I think some restaurants are starting to forget that good food isn't all you need for success it's an experience and it's also about the service provided. I would not...
Read moreWe stopped at the Taqueria el Jalapeño after speaking to a neighbor saying they had a good experience at this restaurant. The restaurant is located just off the main road and there is parking to the side of the building. This is a Mexican restaurant with authentic Mexican food. The seating area is not large, but they have two large TVs and it can accommodate multiple guests. There is also a small outdoor area for eating outside when the weather is nicer.
We called in with a party of eight and were seated immediately when we arrived at the restaurant. We were greeted by our waitress, which brought us chips and salsa which was very good (had just the right amount of heat). There are a lot of traditional Mexican food items on the menu that are reasonably priced. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and a beef lengua (tongue) taco. The enchiladas were crispy and delicious with the verde sauce. I never had a beef lengua before; it was very tasty and I would order it again. Everyone else at the table also enjoyed their meals. One of our friends ordered a slice of tres leches cake to bring home which looked really good.
The owner named Juan, came out to ask us about our meals and the service and genuinely showed that he cared about his business. He shared one of his secret sauces with us and even gave us a take home container to try. They also brought a lot of snacks (mints and Hershey kisses) after we paid the bill, which the kids really enjoyed.
I was very impressed with this restaurant, knowing they had just opened a few months ago. The service was great and I felt extremely valued as a customer. I recommend stopping in to the Taqueria el Jalapeño if you are in the Mt. Airy area and want to try some delicious authentic...
Read moreMy husband and I used to come here a lot. My husband’s favorite thing on the menu was the tres leche! Lately though, they have been serving the absolute TINIEST portions and of course charging the same price. I mentioned it tonight to the Latina girl who claims she was the manager, how the slices were way smaller lately than they used to be. I asked her to let the owner know that his customers are disappointed, and she told me that one other person had also complained and she told him and he did not care and did not want to go back to larger portions. It wasn’t the fact that, if this was true, that makes the owner careless about making customers happy, but it was her horrible attitude that made me walk out. Literally like, “Yeah we don’t care! Get over it!”She clearly needs to learn how to treat customers when they aren’t happy before she can be a successful “manager” of anything. Instead of being kind, she lost the owner a customer. I’ll also be telling others in town about my experience.
Three stars because the food is decent and authentic but service is always slowwww. This isn’t the traditional Mexican restaurant with quick service. Be...
