Just discovered an amazing new Mexican spot in our area - La Mezcalita! 🌮🌵

Walking in, I was immediately struck by the restaurant's vibrant atmosphere! The walls are painted in this energetic lime green color and decorated with authentic Mexican art pieces. The beautiful handcrafted wooden furniture with epoxy finish adds such a genuine touch - you can tell everything was made with care and attention to detail. šŸŖ‘āœØ The decorative sombreros, Modelo beer signs, and framed artwork showcasing Mexican heritage create such an immersive cultural experience!

Our server was so friendly and attentive without hovering - exactly the kind of service that makes dining out enjoyable. We ordered the Taco and Burrito de Espinacas, and wow - each dish was absolutely delicious! šŸ˜

The absolute highlight was the starter chips and salsa that arrived first - that salsa was FRESH with the perfect amount of spice that kept me coming back for more! The burrito was packed with incredible flavors and generous portions, while the taco was perfectly crispy and satisfying. I loved how they served everything with traditional Mexican rice and beans that complemented the main dishes beautifully.

The cleanliness of the restaurant deserves a special mention too, everything was spotless including bathroommšŸ‘Œ

It was a good Mother's day cuisine. The combination of delicious food, friendly service, and those incredible hand-carved wooden elements throughout the restaurant made our visit memorable! ā¤ļø

we will go back with friends and explore more of their menu! This place is definitely becoming our new favorite local spot for Mexican food. šŸ™Œ

PS: If you visit, definitely try their homemade salsa - it's worth the...

This place would be excellent if the prices were more in line with Mexican food. We spent $231.02 during lunch for 3 appetizers, 4 entrees, 1 beer, 1 margarita and 2 mocktails (they charged us the same price for non-alcoholic drinks). 😳 Plus they automatically include the tip, which is weird for me as a regular ā€œout to dineā€ patron. Let me decide on the tip! In fact, I may have tipped better had you not included it for me. The ceviche appetizer was a perfect 10! The rest of the food was decent enough and hits all the boxes for decent Mexican food. I was a little sticker shocked at spending $231 for tacos, fajitas, rice & beans though. Maybe I’m being cheap? The average price of tacos & burritos runs about $8-$18 pp at similar restaurants. We spent almost $60 per person - which includes one beer and one margarita for two people. I also thought the place could be cleaner. There was garbage under our table when we sat down: dirty napkins and left over food from the previous party. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. Overall it’s a solid 3-3.5 only because Mexican food should be an affordable option especially for lunch. $231 for 4 people is a lot for Mexican food. Plating could use some love too. If you want to charge $30 per entree, then plate like it’s...

8/20 update - interesting that the owners did not respond to any of the 5 points I made below.

ā€œThere’s a reason why the parking lot is always packed at this place.

It’s a really good restaurant - nice decor, chips/salsa really good - drinks strong, and food tasty.

Prices generally reasonable (although it would be nice if they included drink/dessert with the kids meal).

I’m at 4.5 stars, which I’ve rounded up to 5 - here’s where it’s lacking…

  1. the restaurant is across the street from budd lake yet they offer no outdoor seating

  2. the restaurant feels a bit cramped/rushed/noisy - (for example, there is virtually no waiting area in the front of the restaurant)

  3. we asked for sour cream to go with my 4 year old’s quesadilla - they brought 2 sides and charged us 2 bucks each for them - a side of sour cream should be free (and is at every Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to - don’t nickel and dime people), and if not, we should have been told of the charge

  4. the salsa served with our chips was served in a styrofoam ā€œto-go lookingā€ container - cmon now - put the salsa in a regular dish for people eating at the restaurant

  5. the ceiling looked raggedy - like it was largely skipped in whatever...

Disappointed. We had heard so many good things about this place. The Good: My wife and I came on a busy Tuesday night, place is packed, didn’t have to wait long for a table at all. Service came with a smile, the older guy was really watching out for everyone including the two waitresses. I’m from the food service industry; their teamwork was excellent, a bit scattered but top notch. Busy busy busy. The Okay: the food wasn’t BAD per se, it was just so bland. I had the Paella (an astonishing $35 high ticket) and my wife had the Flautas ($20). It smelled wonderful but tasted like uncle Ben’s rice with food coloring. Chicken came overcooked with a chewy/rubbery texture. The seafood was similar except tougher. The chips and salsa they give you taste like cold watery tomato sauce with large chunks of onion thrown in. It’s a Mexican restaurant it doesn’t have to be spicy but at least flavorful. I can’t justify the high price for their food when you have great places like Maria Bonita or Don Jose next door. This place has potential, but needs work. We can at least say it’s 50% better than the last restaurant that was here.
