West Lake Village (WVL) has a lengthy menu of Chinese dishes but most of them are distinguishable only by the vegetables that are served with the dish, not by the flavor. Shredded beef with garlic sauce, Hunan chicken, roast pork with mushrooms, it's all the same sauce and the food is barely distinguishable regardless of what protein you order. I cook a lot of Chinese food at home and have discerned the universal WLV sauce is a weak mix of soy sauce, sugar and chicken broth. That's it. It's a delicious brown sauce that no other restaurants are able to replicate.
