West Lake Chinese Take Out — Restaurant in Mount Olive

Two stars because they have an online ordering system and delivery, other than that I would not eat their food. West Lake Village (WVL) has a lengthy menu of Chinese dishes but most of them are distinguishable only by the vegetables that are served with the dish, not by the flavor. Shredded beef with garlic sauce, Hunan chicken, roast pork with mushrooms, it's all the same sauce and the food is barely distinguishable regardless of what protein you order. I cook a lot of Chinese food at home and have discerned the universal WLV sauce is a weak mix of soy sauce, sugar and chicken broth. That's it. Their chicken is standard but the beef has seemingly been treated with baking soda, a typical move to make tough cuts of meat more palatable. I'm a picky eater, and have tried some other Chinese food places. This is THE ONLY place I will order from. Star points include the sauce on the shrimp and broccoli. It's a delicious brown sauce that no other restaurants are able to replicate. And, if you like a little heat, the homemade hot mustard is one of the most amazing food dips I've ever had (literally can't finish my food without it).
