I'm a Texas native and my hubby is an Idahoan, born and raised in Mtn Home. We frequent this quaint town often coming from Boise. This restaurant location is near and dear to us as it's been many different restaurants over the past 50 years. The new owners have made the space open and inviting with space for large groups. They also added in cozy velvet lined booth seating, and there is enough room for everyone. Our family fights over the booth seating. We didn't need to fight here. There is more than enough space to go around.
Now down to the food. Like others, we order everything off the menu. The brisket and rids were our absolute favorite. We bought the "special of the day" and for only $30 we recieved enough meat ( ribs, brisket, and pulled pork) for two adults with left overs. It also came with two medium sides.
I mentioned we ordered more, bit the special alone was all we really needed. At that price point we could have not been happier. Our daughter enjoyed the brisket Mac and Cheese. She stated that it was a smidgen watery from the brisket moisture, but over all the dish was delicious. On to the sides, home made BBQ sauce and sweet tea.
Remembrr I am a Texas native. We also have family in TX, LA, AL,GA, and FL. If we were not true southerners I don't know who would be. We know our food from each state and each one has their own flair.
They offer Cajun style and southern style. Fried okra, Cajun Mac and Cheese, green beans with ham hock, fried pickles, and the list goes on. What is on the menu doesn't stop there. They have more goodies listed on the whiteboard as you walk in. Like cheese curds and their to die for desserts. Trust me, get one of everything and a tip, The medium, aka "premium " sides, are large portions that can feed 2-3 people, so $7 is no biggy.
We were stuffed and had more than enough food still to take home, but we had to try their dessert.
They had 3 on the menu that Saturday. Mixed berry cheesecakes, banana pudding, and Beignet's. See, I told yall they covered many areas. A week later, yall, I am still dreaming about the banana pudding. It was fresh, no boxed mix here. The beignets came out not as you expect, square pillows of greatness, but rather little straws that even little children could enjoy without a huge mess or sugar high.
Ok, I digress. The owner and assumed staff member (forgive me if I'm wrong) were the only two working on a Saturday @ almost 3pm. We had the restaurant to ourselves and the service was impeccable. We gladly purchased more than we needed to first off try everything and secondly support a small business.
I hope this place is around for a while as we will keep coming back.
They also own a food truck, so keep an eye out!
Sorry, there are no photos we dove in to...
Read moreWanted to try something new in Mountain Home. My Bf and I are both from Texas, so A aTaste of Texas off 5th ave in Mountain Home, Idaho sounded yummy, but boy were we disappointed… After a confusing menu and having to repeat ourselves when ordering, we ordered the pulled pork basket with two sides and brisket plate with two sides. We watched a guy who came 15 minutes after us get his food that was also to-go 10 minutes before us. Our food finally came 45 minutes after ordering it to-go and was warm at best and was pretty much cold after our short 5 minute drive home. The Mac n cheese came hardly cheesy and with bacon on it when we only asked for Mac n cheese as our side (not a deal breaker) and was very spicy and hardly cheesy, the potato salad was all mustard basically, coleslaw had no flavor, okra was softly battered and not crispy, the brisket was flaky but still good, and pulled pork was also good but the bbq or house sauce that it came with was not worth raving over at all. For a $40 plus meal for two we expected more. For the wait and the cost the food should have been worth it and was not. I don’t often leave bad reviews but this deserves to be called out. I do...
Read moreGreat customer service friendly and caring staff and it's a family friendly restaurant not to mention AMAZING food I unfortunately don't have teeth anymore so my food choices are very limited due to that and food allergies but I had the brisket and it was so tender so I had absolutely no issues eating it. Also they have by far the best sweet tea in mountain home it's not so sweet to where you would need to get a root canal done after drinking it so that's a plus! The sweetness is absolutely perfect just like the staff they are so friendly and sweet so If you want some southern cooking go to the taste of Texas you won't be disappointed! One last thing their cajion style Mac n cheese is delicious but it most definitely has a kick to it oh and make sure to try their homemade BBQ sauce and if you love it as much as I did you can also purchase some to take home!!! And if you fall in love with their sweet tea you can also purchase that too however it's upon request and it's usually ready within 24 hours to pick up I know that most everyone is used to getting things instantly but something that has a lot of love put into it and is homemade takes time but it's worth the...
