Ever since Lamoon Thai was announced, my family and I had been eagerly waiting for its opening. My brother, who visits from time to time, would always ask if the Thai restaurant had opened yet. While he wasn’t here for the Grand Opening, my mom and I decided to try it out for the first time.
Before heading in, we checked their website and were surprised by the extensive menu—it was almost overwhelming in the best way possible! I decided on the Pad Thai with Chicken at Thai Spice level, while my mom opted for the Tamarind Chicken but wanted to substitute shrimp instead. The website wasn’t clear about substitutions, so we ordered in person. When we arrived around 5:00 PM, we were immediately impressed by the restaurant’s interior—modern, cozy, and zen-like. Though we couldn’t dine in that night, we appreciated how accommodating the staff was in making my mom’s substitution. The total for both meals came to about $30, which seemed very reasonable.
While waiting for our food, we ran some errands at a nearby grocery store, and by the time we returned, our order was ready. The first thing we noticed was the sheer weight of the takeout bag—it felt hefty for just two meals! Once we got home and unpacked everything, we were beyond pleased with the portion sizes. As someone who’s 6’2” and works out almost daily, I was especially happy to see that my Pad Thai was more than enough to leave me satisfied. My mom’s portion of Tamarind Shrimp was generous too, and she even had extra rice to share with me.
The food itself? Absolutely incredible. The Pad Thai was an explosion of textures and flavors—the salty crunch of peanuts, the soft chewiness of the noodles, and the perfect spicy kick all blended into an experience I’d love to relive. The Tamarind Shrimp was the definition of sweet and spicy perfection, and the white rice, simple as it may seem, complemented the dish beautifully. We finished our meal feeling full, happy, and completely convinced that it was worth every penny.
I may not be an expert in Thai cuisine, but I do believe in great food bringing people together. Whether you’re a longtime fan of Thai food, trying it for the first time, or simply looking to support a fantastic local restaurant, Lamoon Thai is absolutely...
Read moreI found my new go-to Thai place. The Drunken Noodles were delicious—big portion, veggies were fresh & crunchy, “medium” spice level was accurate. The crab rangoons were perfectly bite-sized, crispy, & the wrapper-to-filling ratio was decent (& 8 pieces per order is more than what most restaurants offer). The chicken satay was flavorful—chicken was not dry & the peanut sauce was fantastic. The Thai iced coffee hit the spot (if you’re a chronic coffee drinker, you’ll approve of the strength). I was amazed at how fast we received our food (although, we were only one of two parties at the moment). Besides the food, the restaurant & bathrooms were clean & organized. The furniture & decor were modern & tasteful, & the tables/booths arrangement was spacious & inviting. The staff was attentive & friendly; in particular, Kate was very gracious. I love supporting local businesses, & I’m happy to report that Lamoon Thai is a great addition to the lacking restaurant scene in Mundelein. I know they just opened, so I hope they continue serving the community well. I’d...
Read moreOrdered from here for the first time this evening. Took about 20 minutes for tbe flood to be ready. Ordered the jalapeño bombs, house sampler, Tom Kha soup, pad Thai and the kids sesame noodles. I was highly impressed with the food! I never had the soup, and I am mad that I waited so long to have it! So flavorful and creamy and citrusy. The sampler platter boasted spring rolls, crab rangoons, chicken satay skewers and egg rolls. They were all wonderful. The mint in the spring rolls was a favorite of mine. Don't forget about the dipping sauces, each one different and delicious. The jalapeño bombs were truly mind blowing, with the pepper being still slightly crunchy. Perfect blend of spicy and creamy. The pad Thai had just enough citrus, but could have had a little more sauce. My daughter loved her sesame noodles and the veggies in it were cooked perfectly. I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who likes Thai food. We will also DEFINITELY be ordering from here again, and soon!! Don't sleep on this wonderful...
